PESTE HONORED
BY TREE GROWERS
Fred Peste, Shelton Christ-
mas tree grower, was given the
Herb and Helen Plumb Award
at the Northwest Christmas
Tree Growers annual Tree Fair
held in Portland recently.
Paste is the fourth recipient
of the honor which is given for
outstanding contribution and
distinguished service to the
Christmas tree industry.
Paste has been engaged in
Christmas tree production in
the Shelton area for over 40
years. He has introduced many
new cultural techniques and
perfected Christmas tree har-
vesting methods now in general
use throughout the Northwest.
He was instrumental in the-
formation of the Northwest
Christmas Tree Association in
1952.
Jim Hunter of Shelton, a
large producer of Douglas fir
Christmas trees, was elected
vice president for Washington
at the Portland meeting of the
association.

conducted through Olympic
College.

Funeral services for Flor-
ence B. (Mrs. Russell L.)
Easter, 65, 220 Crestview
Drive, Shelton, were held at 10
a.m. last Thursday at Miller-
Woodlawn Funeral Home in
Bremerton.
Mrs. Easter died September
15 in Belmont Terrace Nursing
Home, Bremerton.
Born February 19, 1910, in
Iowa, she had lived in
Bremerton for 19 years before
moving to Shelton a year ago.
She was a registered nurse for
45 years and had worked in the
office of a local doctor.
Survivors include her hus-
band, Russell, of the family
home; her mother, Mrs. Jenny
Fordham; a brother, Ashton;
and a sister, Maxine; all are of
Marshaltown, Iowa.
Burial in Miller-Woodlawn
Memorial Park followed the
services.

John J. Martin, a resident of
Shelton for the past 11 years,
died Monday in Seattle at the
age of 81 years.
He was born March 19, 1894
in New York City, New York.
Many years ago Mr. Martin
worked as a horse wrangler in
Canada, and later was
employed as a commercial fish-
erman and as a boom man in
the logging industry.
Survivors include two sons,
John Alfred Martin and
Thomas Patrick Martin, both of
Shelton; three daughters, Mrs.
Rose Veronica Grandon of
Seattle, Mrs. Francess Eliza-
beth Carter of Seattle and Miss
Elizabeth Veronica Martin of
Shelton; 13 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and three
sisters, Miss Elizabeth Martin,
Miss Florance Martin and Mrs.
Mildred Boddy, all of Seattle.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Tuesday in Batstone Funeral
Home where the Reverend
Michael Feeney officiated at a
funeral service at 1 p.m. Wed-
nesday. Burial was in Shelton
Memorial Park.
Richard M. Munro
Richard M. Munro, born
June 19, 1940 in Shelton and a
lifetime resident of the area,
died last Thursday in Olympia
at the age of 35 years.
He had been employed as a
logging truck driver for Jarvis
Hovey Logging Company.
Mr. Munro is survived by
his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Albert M. Munro; two brothers,
Bruce and Jerry Munro; and a
sister, Mrs. Diane Redman. All
are of Shelton.
Pastor Ken Ken Robinson
officiated at graveside services
held in Shelton Memorial Park
at 11 a.m. Monday.
Bueford L. Rose
Bueford L. Rose, 73, died
Friday in Shelton. He was born
October 10, 1901 in Jefferson
City, Missouri ........
A resident of Shelton for the
past 55 years, Mr. Rose was a
member of IOOF Lodge No. 62
for more than 50 years and for a
total of 28 years had been
employed as a car salesman for
the local Ford agency.
Surviving Mr. Rose are his
