It's tough to go onto
another team's home field
and defeat them on their
homecoming night, but the
Shelton Highclimbers gave
it a go last week.
On Friday, Shelton de-
feated Yelm 38-14.
"The game was pretty
good,"
head
coach
Matt Hin-
kle said.

Offensively, Shelton
rushed for 333 yards -- 267
of them by senior running
back Ralph Kinne on 26

"Offensively, I think
they played well," Hinkle
said. "Kinne had a big
night again and that's at-
tributed to his offensive,
line and his runnillg."
The Tornadoes out-
scored Shelton in the first
quarter by one point. Yetm's
Kyle Brownell scored on
a 65-yard touchdown and
Vernon Parker scored the
PAT for a 7-point lead with
11:34 minutes left in the
first quarter.
Shelton responded im-
mediately. Kinne returned
the resulting kickoff for a
95-yard touchdown. Senior
kicker Shelby Salisbury's
PAT missed. The game en-
tered the second quarter
with Yelm up 7-6.
Shelton dominated the
second quarter. With 11.'.06
left in the quarter, Kinne
scored a 67-yard touch-
down but couldn't convert
the two-point conversion
run.
Kinne found the end
zone again with 53 seconds
remaining in the first half
on a 2-yard run. The two-
point conversion pass from
senior quarterback Jared
Welander to senior tight
end David Ajamu fell in-
complete.
At half time, Shelton
was ahead 18-7.
In the third quarter, the
Highclimbers again kept
Yelm off the scoreboard
while Kinne lit it up for
the fourth time. With 8:58

Kinne scored on a 3-yard
run. When Salisbury's PAT
attempt was no good, the

The Shelton girls' swim
team dominated every event
in its first home meet of the
season last week.
On Sept. 20, the Lady
Climbers defeated Lincoln
140-42. Shelton swimmers
won every event and took
second place in all but two
events.
"Lincoln got two sec-
ond places, so there really
wasn't much to motivate
our girls other than them-
selves," co-head coach Chad
Youngquist said.
Though times are dif-
ficult to judge in the Shel-
ton pool due to the lack of
starting blocks, several
Lady Climbers achieved
personal records (PR) in
their events.

The course went uphill, downhill, through
a tunnel, through shade, under the hot sun
and down straight-aways for 5,000 meters.
On Sept. 19, the Sheldon cross country
team hosted its first home meet of the sea-
son at Lake Isabella State Park. In the four
races during the meet, Shelton won three.
"The teams did a nice job on our very
tough course, but I am hoping for improved
marks there in two weeks," head coach Da-
ryl White said.
The meet began with the varsity girls'
race, which was the only one Shelton did
not win:
Freshman Lindsey Gotdsby was the top
Shelton finisher with a time of 25-minutes,
29.14-seconds and a sixth-place finish.
"I feel pretty good," Goldsby said. "It was
a tough course with a lot of uphill."
Goldsby was closely followed by team-
mate freshman Courtney Burke throughout
"I said, 'i'm sure it
can't be that bad,'... !
know nOW."
She said the Lake Isabella course was
easy compared to some. but since it was the
second 5K she'd ever race, she didn't know
how to judge the course ye~.
"I'm pretty happy with a sixth-place be-
cause I'm a freshman against older run-
ners," Goldsby said.
The junior varsity boys and girls then
hit the course together. Their results were
separated into two races and Shelton won
both.
Senior Jonathan Andrewski won the boys'
JV race with a time of 21:18.10 while senior
Bonnie Casper won the girls' JV race with a
time of 28:15.08.
Finally, Shelton junior Cody Wittiamson
won the varsity boys' race with a dominant
"There were so many hills," he said. "It's
up and down. You get a nice flat section and
before you know it. you're uphill again."
He said he didn't think the course would
be as slow as it did, despite assistant coach
John Johnson warning the Climbers it would
be. Williamson said Johnson ran the course
the day before the race and told the team to
expect a slower course.
"I said, 'I'm sure it can't be that bad,'"
Williamson said. "I know now. It reminds me
of state, though."
He said the only other course he's run
on with so much variety was the state cross
country course on the Sun Williows Golf
Course in Pasco.
"The variety of this course is awesome,"
Williamson said.
He said that now that he knows the
course, he's sure he'll be more competitive
on it the next time the Climbers run it.
On Saturday, the Highclimbers traveled
,to Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah
for the Bellevue High Invitational.
Williamson finished the 5,000-meter
the entire course. Burke finished in seventh- time of 17:26.68. He finished one minute course fastest for the boys with a time of
