The Shelton boys' tennis team has
won just one match and lost three oth-
ers in the past two weeks.
On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the High-
climbers lost at home to Capital 5-0.
Number 1 singles player Indi En-
dicott lost 2-6, 0-6 while .No. 2 singles
player Alex Newman lost 0-6, 0-6. Num-
ber 1 doubles team John Pentony and
Alex Deacon lost 2-6, 5-7, No. 2 doubles
team Brandon Goodale and Bryson Fin-
lay lost 1-6, 6-7 (5-7) and No. 3 doubles
team Brian Cowley and Just Demattos
lost 4-6, 4-6.
"This was a good match for us even
though we lost 0-5," John Perry, head
coach, said. "Capital is consistently
on top of their league, which is 3A in
the Narrows League, and consistently
sends kids to the state tournament so
they are a top-notch team. The doubles
were close all around, especially in the
second sets, so I was pleased that we
played them tough."
On Thursday, Sept. 15, Shelton de-
feated Yelm 4-1 on the road.
Pentony, playing at No. 1 singles,
lost his first set 2-6 but came back to
win 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) while Deacon played
as No. 2 singles and won 6-0, 6-0. En-
dicott pair with Finlay at No. 1 doubles
for a 7-5, 7-5 victory while Goodale and
Newman won their first set at No. 2
doubles 6-3 but then lost 3-6, 3-2 and
Cowley and Demattos won their first set
at No. 3 doubles 6-2, lost their second
set 5-7 and won their third set 6-3.
"We had to default at No. 2 doubles
because one of my players was ill,"
Perry said. "All the matches except
the No. 2 singles were close, so it could
have went either way. The team really
buckled down in some tough situations
to pull out the victory. Pentony had a
marathon singles match of almost three
hours, winning in a close three-set tie-
