WE'LL SEE YOU,
IN THE SPRING!
Community schedules fundraiser
for local morn with cancer
By NATALIE JOHNSON
Last spring, Bridget
Imsdahl was on a roll. She
worked hard to earn her
GED at Olympic College
Shelton and learned in
April that after a long bat-
tle with breast cancer, she
was cancer-free.
Imsdahl's triumph was
short-lived, however.
At her first three-month
checkup after doctors told
her she was cancer-free,
they found inflammatory
breast cancer in her right
side and her entire lym-
phatic system and suspect
it has now moved to her
brain.
"I was crushed, absolute-
ly crushed," she sa~d. "They
gave me two years to live
on the good side."
Despite her diagnosis,
Imsdahl said she tries to
stay positive
Imsdahl said she tries
to put on a brave face and
perservere despite how
hard that can be while un-
dergoing chemotherapy
and radiation treatments.
During her first round
of cancer treatments she
studied for her GED and
took classes at Olympic
College in Shelton.
"I wanted my kids to see
what you do in the face in
adversity, how strong a per-
son should be. You should
never give up," she said.
"I'm trying to face reality
but in the same breath I'm
gonna lick this."
Imsdahl is not only not
giving up, she's spending
as much of her time as pos-
sible "making memories"
with friends and family.
Her many friends in
Shelton have organized a
fundraiser in her honor, at
2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8,
at the Pine Tree Restau-
rant in Shelton, to let her
do just that and take a trip
to DisneyLand with her
daughter, Chelsey Irwin,
13.
"I've never been able to
take a vacation, I've never
been able to do anything
like that, I've been a full-
time mother and worked
full-time," she said. "So
that's what we want to do
-- we want to make memo-
ries. We're going to spend
time together and be happy
and we're not going to look
at the calendar."
The fundraiser on Sat-
urday includes a raffle and
spaghetti feed.
"Jim and Cindy Bennett
at the Pine Tree are the
most wonderful people in
the world," she said. "All
the employees that work
there have pulled together
and I really don't know
what they're doing, they
don't fill me in."
Anyone can also donate
in Imsdahl's name to an ac-
count at Peninsula Credit
Union.
Irwin said she is proud
of her mom for fighting the
cancer and not giving up.
"It's kind of hard. I'm try-
ing to think of it like she'll
get through it because she's
really strong but I'm just
hke really worried ... I'm
trying not ~o mostly think
about it," she said.
Imsdahl doesn't take her
many friends and support-
ers for granted for a mo-
ment, she said.
"I have a l~st of people I
can call on the days that I
just want to wake up anc
cry," she said. "I'm a single
morn and it's just her and I
and we're not alone."
