Historical Society meeting
to feature Pete Replinger
The Mason County Historical
Society will meet tonight at 7:30
in the PUD auditorium for
election of officers and a
program by railroading expert
Pete R eplinger.
An engineer for the Simpson
logging railroad, Replinger is a
steam-railroad buff and is
familiar with old-time roads and
logging equipment. He will show
slides which include Mason
County scenes and equipment.
Replinger has written several
articles on the history of
railroading in Mason County.
Prior to the program the
Historical Society will elect a
slate of officers and five
directors who will serve on the
board of directors for the
coning year. R.W. (Bud) Welch
and Clive Troy will present the
nominating committee's slate and
nonrinations may be added from
the floor.
Anyone with historic pictures
of local scenes who is willing to
allow the society to copy them
is encouraged to contact Irene
Davis, Route 3, Box 60, Belfair
(275-3023).
Absentee
voting

Peggy Cleveland, Mason
County auditor, would like to
encourage any voter unable to go
to his or her polling place on
election day, to vote by absentee
ballot. :
A written request must be
submitted to the auditor which
must include the address to
which the ballot should be sent
and the request must include the
signature as it appears on
registration records. Do not
make requests by telephone.
Mark the ballot as directed in
the accompanying instructions.
The form on the outer envelope
must be completed and signed
and must be postmarked no later
than the day of the election,
November 7, to be counted, Mrs.
Cleveland said.
Tire ttislorical Society would
also welcome volunteers to take
pictures of existing local historic
sites. The society will pay for
supplies, developing and printing.

Donations of a number of
books and artifacts have been
received recently by the society.
They include a collection of
photographs, copies of those that
appear in Mary Randlett's
"lllustrated History of Mason
County;" a corn planter, donated
at fair time by Curt Cammack of
Shelton, and other books,
photographs and papers.
All donations of books,
pictures and artifacts are
recorded by librarian Eva Waite
of Belfair. Ed Cokelet, artifacts
chairperson, keeps a £de of all
artifacts. Until the society
acquires a nruseum, all items are
stored in members' homes.
PETE REPLINGER, expert on trains, will present the program at the Mason
County Historical Society meeting tonight at 7"30 p.m. in the P.U.D.
auditorium.
