SHELTON POLICE Tuesday, October 5 A two-car collision without in- juries was reported on the 300 block of North First Street. A small black dog in a red harness was said to be causing a ruckus in the 100 block of West Cots Street. Police were asked to inves- tigate an alleged sex offense. Wednesday, October 6 A man and a woman were said to be fighting at the corner of 10th and Cota streets. Police were asked to inves- tigate a report of vandalism and a violation of the tobacco regula- tions at Shelton High School. Thursday, October 7 Several juveniles from CHOICE Alternative High School were said to be hiding in some bushes off the 700 block of West Cedar Street. Friday, October 8 A caller from the 3000 block of East Johns Prairie Road said a suicidal man had threatened a 6- year-old with a knife. A caller said a group of high- school people were "being hyper" in a parking lot on the 600 block of West Franklin Street. Saturday, October 9 A caller from the 700 block of West Sunset Court said a relative took off in a motor home without permission. Sunday, October 10  A caller said some juveniles were causing problem by riding their dirt bikes in a drainage ditch near the intersection of 13th Street and Wallace Kneeland Boulevard. Monday, October 11 Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the lawn of Heritage Bank on the 300 block of East Wallace Kneeland Boulevard. MASON COUNTY JAIL POPULATION The Mason County Jail, which was designed for 45 inmates and refitted in 1989 to house 65, recorded populations as follows during the past week: Wednesday 103, Thursday 104, Friday 103, Saturday 101, Sunday 101, Monday 98, Tuesday 95. Fire District 4 responded at 11:33 a.m. to the report of an ille- gal burn at 700 SE Crescent Drive, Shelton, at 4:46 p.m. to the report of a structure fire off of SE Harmony Lane, Shelton, and at 6:36 p.m. to the report of an ille- gal burn off of West Elk Ridge Road, Shelton. Deputies were asked to inves- tigate allegations of sexual as- sault. A burglary was reported to a cabin near mile 1 of NE Wagon Wheel Road, Belfair. Deputies were asked to inves- tigate a report that the power sta- tion at Lake Cushman had been vandalized. Skokomish Tribal Police re- sponded to the report of a bur- glary near milepoint 21 on Highway 101. A burglary was reported to the transfer station on NE Sand Hill Road, Belfair. Monday, October 11 Two burglaries were reported near mile 1 on East Dalby Road in Union. Another burglary was reported to a residence near milepoint 19 of East State Route 3 near Belfair. Cedar 426-9701 I I I I Car, papers go up in smoke Fire destroyed newspaper deliverer C.J. Beard's car after it rolled away from him on Lynch Road on September 30. A Fire District 4 spokesman said efforts to rock the car out of its predicament heat- ed the catalytic converter, which set grass on fire, in turn igniting the vehicle. Firefighters quelled the blaze before it spread to the surrounding woods, and Beard spent the rest of the day in his other car rounding up issues of the Olympian and the Tribune for his customers after the original copies were destroyed. Haunted house set for Shelton Kristmastown Kiwanis Club will host the Haunted House of Bedlam as a fund-raiser this Hal- loween at First and Mill streets on the evenings of October 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 31. Admission to the "haunted house" will cost $5, but a $1 re- duction will be made to partici- pants who bring a can of food for one of the county's food banks. Fright Factory, Incorporated will operate the effects at the event, which will operate behind Toziers' True Value. 100 Years Ago From October 13, 1899, Mason County Journal:" The Chapman and Willey boys have been running a seine in the bay and made a haul which con- tained several big sturgeons one day last week. Two of the fish weighed about 150 pounds each, and a much larger fish got away by tearing a big hole in the nets. The markets served *sea-bass" to their patrons. Thomas Jackson, of Arcadia, made final proof before Corer. Angle last Friday, William Morris and Ar- chic McKay being his witness. Pat. Vance also made final proof for an additional entry of a 40-acre tract in the Skokomish valley. Mr. and Mrs. Vance were the first settlers in the Upper Skokomish, and have lived on their homestead for twen- ty-three years. The first half of that period everything the settlers in the valley needed was packed on their back or the back of a cayuse. 35 Years Ago From the October 15, 1964, Mason County Journal: Mson County's first "lost hunt- er" incident of deer season this year ended happily Tuesday morn- ing when four boys who had spent the night in the woods in the Camp Govey area were found unharmed. The boys, Eddie Crawford, Jim Grif- fith, Roy Dunn Jr. and Ron Jonker, had left about 4:40 p.m. Monday to go hunting .... The boys said they had pursued a deer at which they had shot into the woods and it be- came so dark they could not find their way out. Marcia Dorcy and Reta Carte comprised the homecoming royal court with Queen Cheryl Bead af- ter being introduced to the crowd attending Friday night's homecom- ing game at Loop Field. To make their shining hour complete the .ffrid team responded with a brilliant 38-14 victory over Central Kitsap. 10 Years Ago From the October 12, 1989, Mason County Journal: A search warrant served by local law-enforcement officers on a resi- dence in the Alderbrook develop- ment Monday evening resulted in the arrest of five persons for inves- tigation of manufacture of a con- trolled substance. Officers said the chemicals and finished products found in the Union residence in- dicate it was being USed for the manufacture a methamphetamines. Mason County voters will cast ballots again in the November 7 general election on a $10,050,000 bond issue for an addition to Mason General Hospital and remodeling of parts of the present structure. The bond issue was approved by 68 per- cent of the voters in the primary election but failed to receive vali- dation by 11 votes. The bond issue needed a voter turnout of 40 per- cent of those voting in the last general election in order to be vali- dated. A Fire District 4 spokesman said efforts to rock the car out of its predicament heat- ed the catalytic converter, which set grass on fire, in turn igniting the vehicle. Firefighters quelled the blaze before it spread to the surrounding woods, and Beard spent the rest of the day in his other car rounding up issues of the Olympian and the Tribune for his customers after the original copies were destroyed. Haunted house set for Shelton Kristmastown Kiwanis Club will host the Haunted House of Bedlam as a fund-raiser this Hal- loween at First and Mill streets on the evenings of October 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 31. Admission to the "haunted house" will cost $5, but a $1 re- duction will be made to partici- pants who bring a can of food for one of the county's food banks. Two of the fish weighed about 150 pounds each, and a much larger fish got away by tearing a big hole in the nets. The markets served *sea-bass" to their patrons. Vance also made final proof for an additional entry of a 40-acre tract in the Skokomish valley. Mr. and Mrs. Vance were the first settlers in the Upper Skokomish, and have lived on their homestead for twen- ty-three years. The boys, Eddie Crawford, Jim Grif- fith, Roy Dunn Jr. and Ron Jonker, had left about 4:40 p.m. Monday to go hunting .... The boys said they had pursued a deer at which they had shot into the woods and it be- came so dark they could not find their way out. Officers said the chemicals and finished products found in the Union residence in- dicate it was being USed for the manufacture a methamphetamines. Mason County voters will cast ballots again in the November 7 general election on a $10,050,000 bond issue for an addition to Mason General Hospital and remodeling of parts of the present structure. The bond issue was approved by 68 per- cent of the voters in the primary election but failed to receive vali- dation by 11 votes. The bond issue needed a voter turnout of 40 per- cent of those voting in the last general election in order to be vali- dated.
