position in regard to court rulings.
In the State of Washington at this
point, the two latest court cases
concerning dress codes
specifically related to the length
of hair involves a school in Pierce
county and more recently one in
Grays Harbor County. Both
school districts won the cases
brought against them that
involved the length of student
hair. Shelton administrators do
not believe they can base their
reasoning and actions on court
decisions made in other States
since laws vary from State to
State. They cannot generalize
from Supreme Court decisions
based on evidence or lack of
evidence provided by other school
districts, not based on the specific
student cases in the k)cal school
district nor, in fact~ related to the
issues at hand.
The law concerning
compliance with rules and
regulations .for the State of
Washington is as follows:
28A.58.200 Pupils to comply
with rules and regulations.
All pupils who attend the
common schools shall comply
Kiwanians
Slate Events
The Shelton Kiwanis Club is
sponsoring a benefit exhibition
football game between Shelton
Junior High and Centralia Junior
High at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Loop
Field.
Proceeds from the game will
be used for the Junior High
Athletic fund. Tickets are $1.25
and are available from Kiwanis
members.
Dick Wentz, Shelton High
School Wrestling Coach, will be
the speaker at the Kiwanis
Luncheon Tuesday at the Timbers
Restaurant at noon. tie will talk

progra m.
