Two sophomore Shelton cross
country runners made possible a
win over North Thurston last
week in Lacey, 25-30.
Coach Jan Day of the
Climbers said that even though
Rich James, George Lemagie, and
Mike Hays are running well and
leading the team, Randy Howard
and Mark Lewis have made
Shelton's success possible by
improved running.
The first five places on
each team count in cross country
scoring, and Lewis and Howard
have helped the team greatly by
being the number four and five
men on the team.
The Climbers beat the Rams
last Thursday by improving their
times on the course in Lacey
which they have already run once
this season. Even though the
course had been extended by
about 100 yards, some of the
runners improved their times by
over half a minute. Mark Lewis,
Randy Howard, George Lemagie,
Mike Hays, and Mark Grubb all
improved their times. Here are the
results from that meet: 1. Mike
McGimpsy (NT), 12:12; 2. Rich
James (S), 12:33; 3. George
Lemagie (S), 12:47; 4. Rich Jones
(NT), 12:54; 5. Mark Lewis (S),
12:56; 6. Dave Miller (NT),
12:58; 7. Mike Hays (S), 13:21;
8. Randy Howard (S), 13:27; 9.
Joe Hull (NT), 13:39; 10. Mike
Striggon (NT), 13:40; ll. Mark
Grubb (S), 13:43; 12. Steve Rose
(S), 13:45; 13. Odell Allen (NT),
14:11; 14. Jerry Johnsen (S),
14:31; 15. Randy Wiltman (S),
14:34; 16. Jay Himlie (S), 15:00;
17. Mike Juttee (NT), 15:19; 18.
Kurt Thompson (S), 15:25.
Monday, the Climbers 10st a
squeake~ to Centralia, 27-28. Rich
James beat all runners on
Shelton's home course with a
time of 14:29, eight seconds
ahead of his nearest rival, but
Centralia came up with the next
three places and swung the meet.
The results of that meet are:
1. Rich James (S), 14:29; 2.
Messenger (C), 14:37; 3. Craig
(C), 14:38; 4. Cady (C), 14:50; 5.
Mike Hays (S), 14:53; 6. George
Lemagie (S), 15:09; 7. Mark
Lewis (S), 15:14; 8. Stowe (C),
15:35; 9. Randy Howard (S),
15:48; 10. Allwine (C), 16:01;
ll. Mark Grubb (S), 16:04; 12.
Kerns (C), 16:09; 13. Steve Rose
(S), 16:21; 14. Bryant(C), 16:47.
The jayvees had only three
runners in their meet, so they did
not have a score. Those results
were: l. Davis (C), 16:08; 2.
Maslowski (C), 16:15; 3. Jerry
Johnsen (S), 16:29; 4. Lawerance
(C), 16:45; 5. Prill (C), 17:11; 6.
Jay Himlie (S), 17:15; 7. Kurt
Thompson (S), 17:21; nine
Centralia runners finished after
that.
Next in line for the Climbers
are Olympia in the capital on
Thursday, and Chehalis on their
home course Monday. Day feels
that they will be two very tough
meets, and that the two are
probably first and second in the
league.

Tom Nutt of Shelton placed
first in the eight-year old division
of Ford's Punt Pass and Kick zone
competition in Tacoma last
Saturday and will advance to the
district this Saturday in Seattle.
Nutt had a point total of
133Vz, which was more than 35
more than he had when he won
the local competition in Shelton

based on how far the boy punts,
passes and kicks the ball and his
accuracy in doing so.
First, second, and third place
finishers in that order in the
13-year-old division of the local
division sponsored by Jim Pauley
Ford of Shelton were Larry
Wood, Terry Dion, and Jeff Pill.
Jim Parker placed first in the
12-year-aids, followed by Randy
Bostrom and Jim Kieburtz. Tom
Wittenberg finished ahead of all
1 l-year-aids, Daniel Fitchitt and
Brad White getting second and
third.
The age ten group was topped
by Warren Carr, with Ran Warren
and Kevin Ridout next. Phil
Franklin Won the nine-year-old
division, followed by Greg
Lisoskie in second and Dean
Skipworth in third. Nutt was the
winner of the eight-year-old
