Don’t distract
d rive rs
Editor, the
. In Washington state it is a moving
violation to drive when distracted by
cell phones or handheld communica-
tion devices. It is therefore rude to
stand on a sidewalk waving flags to
attract drivers’ attention by distrac—
tion. I understand that it is an inex-
pensive way to get attention for your
furniture sale, going out of business
sale, or to ask drivers to “honk if you
hate fascists.” But please, please find
another way to get your message dis-
seminated. Engaging in distracting
behavior aimed at vehicle drivers is
just rude and does not put your busi-
ness or your sale or your politics in a
good light. Thank you.

The 35th needs
Darcy Huffman
Editor, the Journal,
Right now, our district has no voice
at the majority’s table. We are sim-
ply “on the menu.” And it’s time for
that to change. In this election, Darcy
Hufi'man is running against incum-
bent Drew MacEwen, who signed onto
the GOP lawsuit against Gov. Jay In-
slee’s COVID-19 public safety orders,
and he votes in support of big busi-
ness nearly 100% of the time.
With Darcy’s 25 years of work
experience in banking, finance and
risk management and nine years as a
church administrator (for a progres-
sive Protestant church in Olympia),
she is well-prepared to serve us in the
Legislature. She has broad connec-
tions in our community and is known
as someone who gets things done. In
the Legislature, Darcy will focus on
health care, broadband as a utility,
and'bringing more family wage jobs
to our area. Darcy’s rural upbringing
will suit her well in representing the
35th District.
If elected, Darcy will have a seat
at that table, and she will fight for ‘
us. Right now, we are experiencing
an economic and social crisis like we
have never seen before. .We need new
leadership who will get creative and
find innovative solutions to our bud-
get deficit, lack of broadband accessr
housing shortage and health care cri-
sis. After working with Darcy and get-
ting to know her, I have no doubt that
she will get these things done. Darcy
Huffman deserves our vote.

I find it offensive that this is be-
ing allowed. I have been an essential
worker since we were all shut down.
I have had to handle numerous situa-
tions where people didn’t want to fol-
low the policies but this is the first
time I have seen such total disregard
for personal and public safety and no
one is doing anything about it.
This is unbelievable. Nine new cas-
es reported in Mason County today.
Maybe because there is blatant disre-
gard to the law and health safety?

Taxman WE ARE PROUD TOANNOUNCE OUR
, ENDORSEMENTS AND APPROVALS
comlng for you
Editor, the Journal,
In the middle of a pandemic and
the most significant election in mod-
ern times, where the course of the
country could be changed and lead us
down the socialist dark hole, we have
our own tax assessor slipping a quick
and massive tax increase on us.
This year alone, our “fair market
value” for the mobile home on 1.2
acres has increased by 24%. I find it
very interesting that on the assessor’s
website page, he states that the prices
have increased 8.5% that my prop-
erty has increased almost three times
that. This means that this mobile
home has increased over $125,000
since we purchased the home, or 71%,
in three years. Now that beats any

on the job.
I guess that might be expected, had

admit, after we bought the home, we
found several things that the home
inspection did not find, like having to
replace the roof and rebuild a wall of
one of the outbuildings after the car-
penter ants had their fill, these would
be classified as repairs, wouldn’t they?
Oh wait, we also fenced the backyard
(three years ago). And there is the
awning that We put on the back patio,
since we had to remove the retract-
able awing that was on the roof, when
we had to replace the roof.
In this time of lockdowns, isolation
from. our families and our jobs, and
having gone through the shortage of
toilet paper I would not have thought
that this would have been possible.
Or maybe, since we are all distracted,

that it should be the other way, they
should have to prove to us that they
think the value is. It should be lim-
