The State Board will meet the week of Oct, 20. Earlier indications were that the school district would be eligible for $33,000. New construction will eliminate the Lower Skokomish School as an educational facility. BOOKS PRESENTED Eight books were presented to the Hood Canal School Library recently by Mrs. V. H. Allison. Among many goals of the ttood Canal Library, librarian Mrs. Nina Miller says, is to stimulate children interest in reading in order to improve their reading ability. The books given by Mrs. Allison are highly appreciated and will add to the more than 4,000 books the district now shelves. The school library subscribes to more than 40 magazines and with more than 1,600 fiction books and more than 2,400 non-fiction books it places the library collection much over the average for schools of the same size and larger. "Mrs. Miller has worked closely with the State Department of Public Instruction and we are proud of our collection and invite the public o visit the library," said John Pill, Superintendent of the school district. "However, we are not too proud to welcome a donation of books; any books donated are marked as a gift." Jeff Pill, 6th grader at the Lower Skokomish School in Hood Canal District received a first place gold trophy award on Loop Field last Saturday in the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition for twelve year olds. Jeff won't be twelve until after Christmas but had to compete in the 12 year old bracket because he will be twelve before January third, the date of national competition. All first place winners in the different age groups will compete in a "Zone Competition" at (Puyallup) Saturday. Johnson said that investigations by the curriculum committee indicated that overcrowding and lack of facilities was hampering developments in curriculum which would be brought about. He stated that the committee would continue its investigations and would make recommendations to the School Board or. the curriculum for the new school. Barrom stated that the proposed new high school was the third part of a building plan which was started three years ago and which had included as the first two steps the construction of the new Bordeaux addition and the addition to Mt. View Elementary Schools. The present Evergreen building and the Angle Building would be used as classrooms for elementary and seventh and eight grade students, he said, and the Reed Building would be remodeled to provide office and storage space. The Junior High Building and the Lincoln Gym would no longer be used. Savage stated that the bond When It Rains Use One Of Our Branch issue proposed would be paid off over a 20-year period. State matching funds and contributions from non-high school districts would bring the total which would have to be paid by property owners in the Shelton district at about 30 per cent of the total cost of the project, $4.6 million. Parsons outlined the work the public relations committee is doing in getting information on the bond ssue to the voters.
