"Obviously, the team played well," Mike
Evans. head coach, said. "We didn't expect
it to be a difficult game for us so we took the
opportunity to play a lot of our nonstarters
and they did very well."
Scoring for the Owls were senior fullback
Jason VanAuken and junior tailback Juan
Jimenez, who both scored two touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Kyle Willey and junior
tight end Cory O'Neil also scored. Scoring
for the first time in their football careers

home game on Thursday, Oct. 13. "Overall. the team played as planned." he added. "We are
working together and we're doing a lot better this year."
Combes said he thought both the starting players and the
second string players did very well against the Terriers.
"They did a great job holding the line," he added. "They
gave the quarterback and other backs time to think."
Evans said a large part of the team's strategy for this game
was to hopefully allow each of the seniors to score at least one
touchdown, especially those seniors, like Combes and Pirtle,
who have never scored before. Only senior lineman Jonathon
Pals has yet to score for the Owls.
"John was out with a concussion last week but hopefully
by the end of the season, he'll be able to score," Evans said.
VanAuken led the Owls in rushing with 65 yards while
Willey added 61 yards and Jimenez contributed 41 yards.
Willey also passed for 181 yards with Jimenez receiving for
85 yards, junior tight end Nick Dierkop receiving for 49 yards
and O'Neil receiving for 34 yards.
The Owls held the Terriers to 93 rushing yards and just
three passing yards.
This Saturday, the Owls (4-1~ are scheduled to play their
Homecoming game against Wishkah at 1 p.m.
WCishkah is right behind us and should do well." Evans said.
"It'll be a tough game and we'll hopefully be prepared for it."

The Shelton football team had a tough
Homecoming game last week.
With only one minute and 34 seconds
of possession time against Bellarmine
Prep on Thursday, Oct. 13, the High-
climbers lost 49-0.
"I thought the team
played fairly well at
times," head coach
Matt Hinkle said. "De-
fensively, it was our
most consistent effort,

Gig Harbor, Despite only hav-
7 p.m/ ing 11 first downs, the
Highclimbers rushed
for a total of 172 yards
and passed for 5i yards. Junior quar-
terback Jared Welander passed for all
51 yards on five of 20 attempts. His top
receiver was junior wide receiver Da-
vid Ajamu with three recepetions for 38
yards.
Welander was also the top rusher for
the evening with 60 yards on nine at-
tempts. Bellarmine held junior running
back Ralph Kinne to just 53 yards on 14
carries.
"The game could've gone a lot better
but we just have to prepare better for our
next game," Welander said. "I think our
defense stayed in it."
"it's boiling down

footbal[,°o"
Senior linebacker Cody Tarver led
the Highclimber defensive effort with 11
tackles, including one tackle for a loss.
Senior defensive back Nic Gove con-
tributed nine tackles, junior linebacker
Thomas Gettle added seven tackles and
freshman linebacker Brian Nault had
another five tackles with a forced fumble.
"Bellarmine Prep has a real good run-
ning back-quarterback-wide receiver trio
and they're going to be fighting Olympia
for the league championship next week,"
Hinkle said. "They are also ranked pret-
ty high in state."
With just two league games left in their
season, the Highclimbers are staying fo-
cused on finishing strong, Hinkle said.
"Gig Harbor is a solid program,"
he added. "They run a spread offense,
similar to what we do, and defensively
they've played well all season long."
Shelton is scheduled to play at Gig
Harbor at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20.
"I think, for the most part, the kids
have gotten better as we've progressed
through the season and we're continu-
ing that trend," Hinkle said. "It's boil-
ing down three weeks of football and we
want to finish on a high note."
