With three more losses added
to its record, the Shelton volleyball
team will not be playing in the post-
season.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Lady
Highclimbers lost at Olympia in
three games 5-25, 15-25 and 12-25.
"Olympia is very good," Steve Beck,
head coach, said. "They're a tough
team. We could only ace them three
times and only scored seven kills."
Despite the loss, Beck said the
second and third games were fun and
well-played, but that Olympia won
because they were the better team.
"We played defense pretty well,"
Beck added. "We dug 27 times."
He stated that junior Courtney

offense."
Finally, on Monday, Oct. 17, the
Lady Highclimbers lost at South Kit-
sap 17-25, 20-25 and 17-25.
"They were a little better than
Stadium and we made them earn ev-
ery point," Beck said.
Senior Caitlyn Ernst led the team
with seven kills while senior Lolly
Jones scored four kills.
"Our setter, Yemas Ly, had a
tough time keeping the ref happy but
she played well," Beck said. "She led

"Stadium was a sad one," Beck
said. "Of all the nights for us to not
have our ducks in a row, this was
one we needed to win. Had we played
well, it could've gone either way."
Beck said the match was a tough
night for the team's setters.
"When the setters have trouble,
we can't hit and then we can't score,"
he added. "We served at 87 percent
as a team but didn't ace them a lot
and we only had 12 kills with 13 hit-
As a team, Shelton scored 13 aces
against South Kitsap, with Jones
serving five of them.
Beck said that with these three
losses, the team will finish seventh
in league, ahead of only Mt. Tahoma.
As of press time, the Lady High-
climbers had not yet played at home
against Bellarmine Prep on Wednes-
day, Oct. 19.
"Except for a couple of hiccups, it's
been a hard-working, good attitude
group this season," Beck said.
Shelton girls'soccer
season wrapping up
By EMILY HANSON
With the season quickly drawing to a close and the
team plagued by injuries, many of the Shelton girls' soc-
cer players have been stepping up.
"We've had some key injuries and the depth of the
squad isn't that good, so it's difficult to replace some
players," head coach Mike Malpass said. "The girls who
stepped up are doing really well."
Despite this overall effortt from the Lady Highclimb-
ers, the team lost two more games last week.
~ Malpass said Muenchow was the player
of the game.
On Thursday, Oct. 13, the Lady
Highclimbers lost at Gig Harbor 6-0.
"Once again, it was 1-0 at halftime,"
Malpass said. "They did really well. We
