By EMILY HA~ ISON The Shelton swim team tanked against Olympia in its final home m Jet on Tues- day, Oct. 11. The team, unable to com- pete with Olympia's large numbers and diStance swim- mers, lost 81-105 in their fi- nal dual meet of the season. "We did better than I thought we would," Chad Youngquist, co-head coach, said. "Olympia has a really strong team and at the re- lay meet [earlier this season] they doubled our score." Youngquist pointed out that after the first six events of the meet, Shelton was ahead 48-44 and added that the fact that Olympia does not have a diving team helped the Lady Highclimb- ers. "Olympia's coach is a dis- tance freestyle swimmer," Youngquist stated. The final six events of a dual meet consist of four dis- tance freestyle races. "I don't like losing but I still think the girls did re- ally well," Youngquist said. "They still got best times." On Saturday, Oct. 15, se- nior Paige Roberts qualified for districts in diving while senior Mishawn Ewart qual- ified for league in diving. "I think if we keep work- ing hard, a lot of people will qualify for districts," Ewart said. "We just have to keep our heads up." As of press time, the Lady Highclimbers had not yet competed at the Narrows Divisionals at South Kitsap High School on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Swimmers and divers who have qualified for the league championships are scheduled to compete at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 and at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 at Foss High School.
