Remember
America
Editor, the Journal,
Remember the United States of
America? Remember when the presi-
dent of the United States said my fel—
low Americans and meant it? Remem-
ber when we were all American citi-
zens, not red ones or blue ones, or left
ones or right ones, or us and them?
Remember when there was a com-
mon pride we shared in being united
as Americans, not our group is better
or more right than yours? Remember
when the Stars and Stripes fluttering
in the breeze made your heart flutter
along with its meaning of freedom for
all, instead of flags flying everywhere
emblazoned with the name of an indi-
vidual touting the idea he has planted
his personal flag like he was claiming
property in a land grab? What has
happened to the “united” part of our
beautiful country? In a country where
“united” is ingrained in our very ex—
istence why don’t we have a leader
who unites us instead of pointing out
differences, problems and conspiracy
theories to divide us? A true leader
puts aside personal issues for the
sake of county and citizens and does
not whine when he thinks it makes
him look bad, for better or worse.
It’s time to remember America was
always great and perhaps if we all
unite in our sameness we can make
America greater. Please vote!

Shelton.
Let us count
the ways.
E itor, the Journal,
WI ’ con‘stantlyisurprised-by the
continued backing by many people of
our current president, even after the
revelations about his personal finances
and his business failures. It is appar-
ent that most of his business ventures,
after he begins to operate indepen-
dently of his father, are failures. He
and his backers bring up many issues
that they tout as successes, such as:
1. Law and order. Early in the dem-
onstrations that were designed to call
attention to the killing} of Black people,
there were instances of grace and even
charm. There were times when police
officers joined the demonstrations, and
an event where demonstrators joined
forces to protect stranded police from
anarchists. But as time went on the
anarchists began to dominate the pro-
ceedings aided by the president’s rhet-
oric. His rhetoric constantly increased
the level of vitriol and hostility.
‘2. The economy. Donald Trump had
the benefit of taking office when the
economy was strong and growing. He
then cut taxes and cut regulations, the
main results are a great boondoggle
for thé‘yery wealthy and air and water
pollution for the rest of us.
3. The issue of choice. Nobody likes
abortions, but does anybody like the
situation of 50 years ago with back-
alley “clinics” and coat hangers? I
believe the rate of abortions declined
during the Barack Obama years be-
cause of educational facilities. It seems
to me that the pregnant one should
have a say in this matter. At any rate,
.why is it that the ones most opposed to
choice are the ones who deprive moth-
er and baby of support and care?
4. Guns. I understand most gun
owners support reasonable gun control
laws. I am willing to bet $1,000 that if
Joe Biden is elected nobody will come
to take my guns.
5. Pandemic. There is no question
but that our president defied the best
scientific advice and as a result our
country has had the worst response
of any country on Earth. Trump’s ac-
tions include the dismantling of the
pandemic response organization that
Obama had set up.
6. The environment and climate
change. Here again the president has
defied universal scientific advice and
greatly increased the potential haz-
ards that we face. The predictions that
were made 20 or 30 years ago are now
coming to full flower.
7. Health care. Once again our
president, in defiance of science and
history, and in the face of a global
pandemic, is trying to dismantle the
Affordable Care Act, thus leaving 20
million people without care, and the
rest of us subject to “pre-existing con-
ditions” exclusions. He has been claim-
ing for five years that he has a plan.
I think his only plan is to dismantle
the Obama legacy. Obama hurt his
feelings at a correspondents’ dinner
several years ago and Trump is still
crying about it.
8. Well, if worst comes to worst
(Trump is re-elected), we will still have
QUACKANON. Quack on, quack on
you quackers.

Trump’s a
total failure
Editor, the Journal,
Trump’s business success. Really?
I voted for Donald Trump because I
was not impressed with Hillary Clin-
ton and believed Trump was a very
successful businessman. Nothing was
further from the truth. After listening
to Trump’s lies for six months I did
, research on his business ability. In
short, he is a total failure. His busi- '
ness credit rating was at that time and
still is less than 20%. Question: Would
you hire a financial adviser if 80% of
his clients ended up with bankruptcy?
President Trump continues to brag
about his effect on the US. economy
knowing that the economy began
improving in 2009 and continued to
improve up to the coronavirus attack.
He uses increased employment as
an indicatOr of his effect on economic
growth. Fact: the employment increase
during the first three years of Trump’s
presidency was less than the last three
years of President Barack Obama’s
presidency.
Consider this: If Trump had paid
attention to the doctors and scientists
at the beginning of the virus epidemic,
the odds are that the entire country
would probably have just gone to stage
3, thus lessening the economic impact
of the virus. For example, consider the
food and beverage industry. Stage 3
would have meant no total shutdown,
keeping 50% employed or' half of all
employees still working 50% of their
original time.

Ericson’s
I too political
Editor, the Journal,
Too bad about Kirk Ericson. His
once witty and charming column has
turned political and not very much fun
to read. In fact, I quit reading them. I
can’t wait for the election to be over so
I can enjoy this talented man’s clever
and entertaining articles again.
