For most of the Shelton boys' tennis team, the season
ended at the Narrows league preliminaries on Tuesday,
Oct. 18.
For one doubles team, the season ended two days later
at the first day of the league finals.
No. 1 singles player Alex Newman lost to Mount Ta-
homa's Michael Lim 0-6, 0-6; No. 2 singles player Bryson
Finlay lost to Stadium's Kellen Girvin 1-6, 3-6 and No. 3
singles player Josh Priest lost to Bellarmine Prep's Adam
Smith 0-6, 0-6.
No. 1 doubles team Indi Endicott and Brandon Goodale
lost to Bellarmine Prep's Mulloy and Beezer 1-6, 5-7 and
No. 2 doubles team John Pentony and Alex Deacon lost to
Gig Harbor's Magnani and McIntosh 3-6, 4-6.
The only victory for Shelton at the preliminaries on Oct.
18 came from the No. 3 doubles team, Justin Demattos

in the dub durin9 the
offseason°"
and Dalton Jaski defeating Mount Tahoma's Sandoval and
Mancilla 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
"We had a tough draw for my top two doubles teams,
playing a Gig Harbor team and a Bellarmine team," John
Perry, head coach, said. "We played tough, but the other
teams had more tennis experience and tourney experience
than we did."
Perry said Demattos and Jaski defeated the No. 1 dou-
bles team from Mount Tahoma in a close match.
"It gave them good expermnce to go to the main draw,
with them only being a freshman - Demattos - and a guy
who has only been playing for about six weeks," Perry
added. "They played very well at the tourney, especially
in their second match against a South Kitsap team where
they lost 4-6, 0-6."
Perry said that, all in all, the team had a good season
considering it was almost entirely a new varsity squad with
little experience.
"I am only losing two varsity players next year and am
keeping my top doubles team and half of my No. 2 doubles
team, so we should have a fun season next year," Perry
said. "Especially if some of the guys can get out and play in
the club during the offseason."
