Lady Highclimbers 6th at league swim championships Five Shelton swimmers and two divers advance to districts this weekend By EMILY HANSON Ten Shelton swimmers competed at the league meet last week. Seven are contifiu- ing on to districts this weekend. "Head-to-head, we did well, but when the other teams could use their depths, they beat us," Chad oYoungquist, co-head coach, said. "We improved a lot, though." Youngquist said that at the Narrows League Hannah Championships, held on Garcia Thursday, Oct. 20 and Friday, Oct. 21, teams were allowed to enter up to four swimmers in each event. This hurt the Shel- ton team, since the Lady Highclimbers did not Sarah have the numbers to com- Myers pete. SHS took sixth place with 120 points out of seven schools at league and Youngquist that the top five schools - Gig Harbor, Sta- dium, Central Kitsap, Olympia and South Kitsap - have teams which are so heavily populated that their numbers are between almost double and triple the numbers of the SHS team. Youngquist said that the top six swim- mers in each event at districts will advance to state and that, traditionally, one-third to half of the top 16 swimmers in the state 6 come from this district. "We will go faster at districts," Youngquist said. "We're a small team, so from a team points standpoint, we'll have an even harder time, though." The Lady High- climbers who competed at league are: Carisa Kunkle, Mishawn Ewart, Sarah Myers, Hannah Garcia, Sara Minighin, Emma Pridmore, Paige Roberts, Paige Goldsby, Hannah Womer and Jordan Cros- san. Goldsby, Womer and Crossan are alternates for the relay team at dis- tricts, but Youngquist said they are unlikely to compete.
