Looney Heads Tutoring

The 1967 student body Vice Looney . rying to work
President of Shelton ltigh School, himself out of a job by doubling
Steve Looney, is on the the number of tutors, whichwould
co-directors of an unusual student entitle S.T.A.Y. to federal funds
project at the University of
Washington, the Seattle Tutoring
Agency for Youth.
Looney, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. S. Looney, Shelton,
co-directs S.T.A.Y., which
involves more than 600 student
volunteer tutors, who assist
children from disadvantaged
backgrounds.
A junior in Accounting,
Looney is planning to enter Law
School after graduation. He has
worked on publicity for the
Associated Students of the
Univeristy, and is presently
enrolled in the Reserve Officer
Training Corps.
S.T.A.Y. is a program that
extends the abilities of University
students to under privileged
school children in the Seattle
area. The student receives
valuable experience teaching
children, while giving the child
the advantage of a private
instructor and a friend.

This would give better continuity
to the program which sometimes
suffers because of the lack of
volunteer time.
