Gates, Director of Sound
Learning and their Out-
reach Coordinator, Tracy
Moore. There are still a
great number of people in
our community who have
trouble reading and writ-
ing. Sound Learning .was
established to provide help
with these skills plus GED
preparation and citizen-
ship. In their presentation
they related several success
stories of people overcom-
ing their struggles to learn.
Not only is Sound Learning
looking for students to help,
but also for volunteers. They
are located at 133 Railroad
Ave. in Shelton. Their phone
number is 426-9733.
Pioneer School will be
offering school tours from 9
a.m. till noon on Nov. 14. If
you have an interest in see-
ing the school in action this
is your chance. An Eagle
student will be assigned
to you and give you a tour.
I will have more info next
week.
I received a CERT report
from Island Eyes -- boy
they do a great job keeping
us informed. With winter
storms on the way, this is
good information from Nick
Neuerburg of Mason 5 Fire
District. Nick suggests that
if the worst does happen
and the power is out for
several days or weeks, we
need to be prepared with
food supplies and water for
at least 3 days, with the op-
timum being 30 days. Also,
we need to be prepared to
provide medical assistance
to ourselves or a neighbor
for at least 3 days. If you
feel you need help with
this, look for the next CERT
meeting at the community
hall and they can provide
you with that valuable infor-
mation.
