By EMILY HANSON The Shelton girls' swimming and diving season ended at the district championships last weekend. From Thursday, Oct. 27 through Satur- day, Oct. 29, the Lady Highclimbers com- peted in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 50-yard free- style, the 100-yard breaststroke and diving. Only the medley relay and freestyle re- lay teams competed fast enough to place, though only in the consolation finals. "The relays went faster." Chad Youngquist, co-head coach, said. "We got all best times for the relay. We went ranked lower than we ended up, with the relay team ranked 14 at the beginning of the meet and ending up 12th." Youngquist said all of the swimmers im- proved but not enough to move on to state, for which seventh is the lowest place ac- cepted. Swimmers could have also qualified for state based on their event times. Hannah Garcia competed in the 50-yard freestyle while Sara Minighin received a wildcard in the 100-yard breaststroke. The two divers for SHS were Mishawn Ewart and Paige Roberts Together with Carisa Kunkle and Sarah Myers, Garcia and Minighin also competed m the 200-yard medley relay. These four swimmers were also the 200-yard freestyle team for the Lady Highclimbers. "None of the girls went fast enough to go to the second day of the championships," Youngquist said. "Our most outstanding performance was Sarah Myers on the 50-freestyle stretch for both of the relay teams. She's now top six in Shelton his- tory." Youngquist said that, as a coach, he always Sarah hopes the swim- mers compete Myers beyond what is IIJ a reasonable ex- pectation "I think we're a young team and we went to a really big meet." he added.
