January "Living Well With Diabetes" class - MGH
& FC wants everyone in the community to start the
new year off right - in a healthy way. If diabetes is a
part of your life, plan to attend Mason General
Hospital's two-day class entitled "Living Well With
Diabetes." The two consecutive afternoon classes will
be Tuesday, January 31 and Wednesday, Febru-
ary 1 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Ellinor Room at
the Hospital. Due to limited space, advanced regis-
tration is required. Diabetes education is a covered ser-
vice under most insurance plans. To pre-register, call Sue
Barwick, R.N., certified diabetes educator at (360) 426-
1611, ext. 3301 (from Allyn (360) 275-8614, ext. 3301).
"Managing Diabetes: The Next Step"- November
Topic for Shelton Diabetes Support Group
Meeting - Diabetes really can be controlled, and
anyone can acquire the tools and the knowledge for
self-management of this condition - to the point of
leading a normal, healthy life. "Managing Diabetes:
The NextStep" will be the subject at Mason General
Hospital's next Shelton Diabetes Support Group
meeting set for Thursday, November 17 from
1 to 2 p.m. in the Ellinor Room at the Hospital. The
class is free and open to people with type 1 and 2
diabetes, their friends, and family. The guest speaker
is Bob Kolenkow, a Shelton resident, who earned
the title of lc champion" by achieving great blood-
sugar control with diabetes. Bob will share his per-
sonal experience with diabetes and effective self-

275-8614, and ask for the Diabetes Wellness Center).
"Where's The Beef?"- November Topic for Allyn
Diabetes Support Group Meeting - A vegetarian
diet doesn't have to be a boring substitute for beef
in managing a healthy diet for those with diabetes,
and there can be some very appetizing alternatives.
"Where's The Beef? - Changing the Way We Think
About Vegetarian Foods" will be the subject at
Mason General Hospital's next Allyn Diabetes
Support Group meeting set for Thursday, Novem-
ber 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Port of Allyn building's
downstairs meeting room. It is free and open to
people with type 1 and 2 diabetes, their friends, and
family. Due to the Thanksqiving holiday, this meeting
has been scheduled two weeks earlier than usual. For
more information, call Sue Barwick, R.N., C.D.E. at (360)
275-8614, and ask for the Diabetes Wellness Center.
MGH FREE Community CPR Class - Thursday, .
November 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the MGH & FC
Learning Center, located next to McDonald's on
Olympic Hic)hway North. Pre-registration for the
class is required, as class size is limited, so please
make your reservations by calling The Learning

Tickets are on sale until NOVEMBER 9 for
Mason General Hospital Foundation's annual
Fantasy Forest event. This year's theme is
"Midnight and Ice" and the festivities take
place Tuesday, November 15 through Saturday,
November 19 at the Pavilion at Sentry Park,
Shelton. Ticket purchases and reservations

Wound Care Services: Advanced Wound Care
At MGH we offer a variety of out-patient services, including advanced wound
care services. Our services also extend into our in-patient hospital setting where
ourgoalis to prevent wounds such as pressure ulcers. Should you find yourself
needing wound care in or out of the hospital, call the Wound Care Coordinator
at (360) 432-3285, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Our staff consists of your
physician who refers you, a board-certified wound care nurse, registered nurses,
and licensed practical nurses.
Our Wound Care Services provides care for patients with pressure ulcers,
diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, infected wounds, acute wounds,
burns, and other chronic wounds.
