In its early months Battery B drilled at the Shelton airport in the old Navy mess hall, now used by the Rogers School for Retarded Children. The Shelton armory was completed in 1955 and Battery B began its drills in the new structure on 1 November 1955. M/Sgt. Ken- neth Rose, who is administrative supply main- tenance technician, is the battery's only full- time employe. He enlisted in Battery B 31 August 1948 as a private and rose to the rank of master sergeant, assumihg his present du- ties 1 November 1950. Battery B drills now on Monday nights at 7:30 except for the two-week encampments each summer during which its personnel live in the: field and on the range actively practic- ing their military duties as field artillerymen operating the big howitzer guns. An average of $20,000 has been paid Bat- tery B members annually over the past 15 years, for a total of approximately $300,000 during the life of the battery up to now. Today Battery B is under the command of Captain Paul Koch and 2nd Lieutenant Jo- seph L. Ellis Jr. There is an opening for either a 1st Lieutenant or a 2nd Lieutenant to com- plete its complement of officers, as well as several non-commissioned officers among the more than 15 openings available in the per- sonnel ranks to bring the battery up to full strength. Sergeant Rose can provide information to both young men who have yet to fulfill their military obligations and to veterans who have had military service as to just what future military service they face. He may be con- tacted at either the rmory or his home. This Activity In Cooperation With Mason County Chamber Of Commerce & Sponsoring Businesses lyonier Inc. (Olympic Research Div.)
