their fingers crocheting hats for the kids of Shelton
Ver the course of this year. Yarn was donated to the
aSon County Senior Activities Center and given to
e Pair, who toiled in a labor of love for Warm Hands,
a Program that provides hats, mittens and scarves to
SChoolchildren in Mason County. "It would be a joy
to see the kids of Shelton wearing our hats," lnmon

Harstine Island:
Emergency response will be
discussed at community hall
By JOHN COOPER
Tomorrow night the Harstine
Island Community Club will meet
in the community hall and an im-
portant topic will be addressed:
preparedness of the island in the
event of an emergeny.
Assistant Chief Tim McKern of
District 5 Fire Department, will
speak about CERT, the Citizens
Emergency Response Team that
may be first responders should
an emergency arise. Some Har-
stine ]slanders have already be-
come members of CERT and have
received essential training but
more people are needed to join the
team.
Marty Best, director of the Ma-
son County Department of Emer-
gency Management, will talk
about the operation, responsibili-
ties and capabilities of his office.
Officials make the point that in an
emergency everyone should know
what can and may be done to alle-
viate difficulties that can arise in
the event of a catastrophe.
Vital information will be given
tomorrow night, after some good
fellowship and a potluck meal that
begins at 5 o'clock. This informa-
tion could make a difference in the
health and well-being of you and
your family should a natural or
man-made calamity occur.
GOOD ADVICE comes from
Lieutenant Nick Neuerburg of
District 5, "With winter coming on
it's time for all of us to take stock
of our emergency supplies and re-
view our own readiness," he said.
"Being prepared always helps
lessen the stress and hardships
when the big one hits."
Pumpkins get a popularity push
on October 31 when they are much
in demand tbr the making of jack.
