that site to Clearbrook,
Minnesota. Forty miles of
underground pipeline would
cross Mason County. Althougll
the exact route is not f01al, tile

William Sage, representing
Northern Tier Pipeline Company
(NRPC), and John Douglass,
representing the Energy Facility

Report on il,egal
fishing is given
Illegal fishing by non-Indians
has netted well over 41,000
chum salmon so far in area 12
(northern Hood Canal), and
those fishermen have
overharvested their share of
Hood Canal chum by 21,200
fish, according to Washington
Department of Fisheries data
revealed at a technical meeting
October 31.
WDF statistics show no
illegal treaty Indian catch in any
area of Hood Canal.
The chum allocation and
catch in Hood Canal as of
October 27 is as follows:
Actual
Allocation Catch
Treaty 101,816 35,926
Non-Treaty 93,620 105,977
Hood Canal now is closed to
all fishermen for conservation
purposes. The canal was closed
in order to protect chum stocks
in the northern area that have
been seriously overharvested by
the illegal fishery.
"Unfortunately, these data
show that nice guys finish last,"
said Gary Peterson, Point No
Point commissioner. "The people
being hurt by the illegal fishery
are those who choose to obey
the law, both Indians "and
non-Indians."
NTPC. These must be submitted
before hearings begin in March,

A steering committee has
been organized to forecast
specific problems and costs in
the way of public services,
natural resources, and
socio-economics which would
become the burden of citizens of
Mason County. In addition tile
Regional Planning Office is
building a file of written
statements by individuals or
organizations describing local
concerns. Both sets of
information will be compiled in
a report and submitted to
EFSEC. The Regional Planning
Staff will be available to answer
any questions.
Additional maps will be on
display at the public meeting. All
interested citizens are welcome
to attend this meeting so that
the concerns of Mason County
residents are represented.
