NTPC proposes to build an oil tanker facility in Port Angeles and a transport pipeline from that site to Clearbrook, Minnesota. Forty miles of underground pipeline would cross Mason County. Althougll the exact route is not f01al, tile pipeline would follow a path parallel to and within one mite west of Highway I01. William Sage, representing Northern Tier Pipeline Company (NRPC), and John Douglass, representing the Energy Facility Siting Evaluation Council (EFSEC), will discuss tile project and its schedule. They will also be available to answer questions. EFSEC is responsible for making a final recommendation, for or against, to the Governor. it has encouraged each county which would be affected to m a k e c o nl m e n t s a n d recommendations which could be considered when developing conditions for an agreement with Report on il,egal fishing is given Illegal fishing by non-Indians has netted well over 41,000 chum salmon so far in area 12 (northern Hood Canal), and those fishermen have overharvested their share of Hood Canal chum by 21,200 fish, according to Washington Department of Fisheries data revealed at a technical meeting October 31. WDF statistics show no illegal treaty Indian catch in any area of Hood Canal. The chum allocation and catch in Hood Canal as of October 27 is as follows: Actual Allocation Catch Treaty 101,816 35,926 Non-Treaty 93,620 105,977 Hood Canal now is closed to all fishermen for conservation purposes. The canal was closed in order to protect chum stocks in the northern area that have been seriously overharvested by the illegal fishery. "Unfortunately, these data show that nice guys finish last," said Gary Peterson, Point No Point commissioner. "The people being hurt by the illegal fishery are those who choose to obey the law, both Indians "and non-Indians." NTPC. These must be submitted before hearings begin in March, 1979. A steering committee has been organized to forecast specific problems and costs in the way of public services, natural resources, and socio-economics which would become the burden of citizens of Mason County. In addition tile Regional Planning Office is building a file of written statements by individuals or organizations describing local concerns. Both sets of information will be compiled in a report and submitted to EFSEC. The Regional Planning Staff will be available to answer any questions. Additional maps will be on display at the public meeting. All interested citizens are welcome to attend this meeting so that the concerns of Mason County residents are represented.
