MARY'S MEMOIRS
It's getting cold and
staying wet on the canal
this week. Amid prep-
ping the cars for winter,
a trip to the Postmasters
banquet in Aberdeen,
and Charlie's drunken
antics, Mary turns 37 this
"week. She wins a prize of
three candy bars on her
birthday. Sam gets her a
big diamond ring. Mary
and Sam spend a couple
days in Seattle
at Sam's Associ-
ated Grocer's
Co-op Conven-
ition, and Mary
gets some shop-
ping with Annie
in, and her hair
waved. Enjoy!

Sam went
to Seattle and stayed all
night. We had a lot of
work to do in the store
and in the evening I
stayed home and did
some pressing and went
to bed early. My pictures
came and they were good
so now I go look for some
folders to put them in.

A very cold day and
we put antifreeze in the
Dodges and drained the
big truck. It has been
freezing hard every night
and you can certainly
tell the difference in the
house. Sam came home
with a big diamond din-
ner ring and it is the
loveliest thing I ever saw
but so large that I can
never wear it in Belfair.
He is fond of diamonds,
and I wish I could give
him one for Christmas.
Now I'm going to bed for
I must get some sleep
if we are going to that
banquet in Aberdeen to-
morrow night. I've typed
more tonight than I have
for a week as I've missed
night school and did not
get any practice. And Ill
miss Monday too, worse
luck. Mrs. Gladwin got
a school in the Schomish
[sic] where they had some
trouble with the teacher
and now I hope she will
be happy and too busy to
cause so much trouble as
she has been lately.

We had a busy day.
Went to the Postmasters'
dinner in Aberdeen and
it was fine - turkey and
all the trim-
mings. Saw Os-
car Foster and
wife and Mr. and
Mrs. McGee of
Abercleen. We
had fun laugh-
ing and talking.
Mrs. Anderson
went with us and
she enjoyed her-
self. Home late.
Stopped in to see
Hughes at Sat-
sop and won three candy
bars offhis punch board.

Henry came late last
night and went to bed in
the attic. Got up early
and went duck hunting.
Later he and Sam went to
some of the marshes and
got two ducks. I cleaned
house, cleaned writing
desk, attic, made up the
beds there, mended all
the clothes and now shall
fix up some scrapbooks.
Went to Mrs. Johnson's
to eat and had shrimp
wiggle. It was real good.
Chet and his girl were
there too. Home and sat
around the rest of the
evening. I surely feel like
I got a lot of work done
today. Dug some flowers
to send to Mrs. Nielsen
as I promised some to her
this summer. Aunt Polly
sent me some maples and
we planted them out in
back of the store.

This was a wet day
and in the evening I took
the car to Seattle and
got out to John's about
ten and they were very
surprised to see me for
had got my letter and did
not say anything about
coming in with the car so
they expected to meet me
and when I did not call
up they said it was rather
funny. No word from Sam
so we went to Chinatown
and had noodles and they
were fine. Home and to
bed late.

A fairly nice day and
in the early morning Sam
called up and wanted
to know ff I had a clean
shirt for him. So I met
him downtown and we
went to the jewelers and
had the ring fixed and the
mounting on my other
ring changed. Then Annie
and I did some shopping
and it was a lot of fun.
We got all the things that
I had on the list and even
the cocktail glasses that
Sam wanted for Thanks-
giving. Home and had my
hair waved and it looks
very nice. Sam came
for me about six and we
went to the Washington
Hotel where the conven-
tion was held and I met
Mr. Joe Page who used
to come by here and visit
us when he sold for the
Superior Cracker Co. The
room was a mad-house
and so full of people that
you could hardly breathe.
All of them had a glass in
their hands and sought
to put one in mind for
somehow folks cannot
understand why everyone
does not drink when they
do. The dinner was nice
and the program was too.
We had a good time and
saw Al and his wife and
the Art Crown's. Home
and to bed late and told
John and Annie all about
it. Now we wished we had
taken them along.
