or the first time in two years,
FShelton High School choir,
drama and stagecraft stu-
dents have blended their creative
talents to produce a show, “Night of
Musical Theater,” which debuts at
7 pm. Thursday in the school’s
Performing Arts Center.
The show also plays at 7 pm.
Friday and 2 and 7 pm. Satur-
day. Admission is free. Audience
members are required to wear face
masks.
“Into the Wild” is the theme of
the production, an annual show-
case that skipped 2020 due to the
pandemic. The multimedia show
includes a filmed play projected be-
hind the performing singers.
The theme of the animal king-
dom came up when the students
were brainstorming ideas, said
Paul Nakhla, who directs the
school’s three choirs.
“It morphed into everything fan-
tastical,” he said. “We’ve got Dr.
Seuss and wizardry and mystical
creatures.”

The City of Shelton is moving,
forward on two street projects, the
overlaying of new pavement on
Brockdale Road and the addition
of flashing beacon lights and oth—
er safety improvements at three
busy‘intersections. ‘
At its Nov. 2 meeting, the coun—
cil voted unanimously to move the
two projects to its action agenda
at its meeting at 6 pm. Tuesday.
Because both projects are receiv—
ing government money; the city is
required to sign an Olympic Re-
gion Programs Project Adminis-
tration Agreement on both.
No one spoke during the public
hearings on the ordinances at the
-Nov. 2 meeting.
In' July, the city received a
$770,103 state grant for pedes-
trian improvements on the Shel-
ton Springs Road crossing from
Shelton High School to the Hufi'
and North Ninth Street, connect—
ing students and parents to Ever-
green Elementary.
City Engineer Ken Gill said
Robert Herron, the Shelton School
District’s director of facilities and
maintenance, was instrumen—
tal in helping secure the “Safe
Routes to School” grants from the
state Department of Transporta-
tion. The downtown intersection
of Franklin and Seventh streets
would receive curb extensions on
both sides of all four corners of the
intersection, pedestrian crosswalk
markings in all legs of the inter—
section, rectangular rapid flashing
beacons across Seventh Street on «
the north side of the intersection,
Americans with Disabilities Act-
compliant curb ramp retrofits and
audible pedestrian signals.
The city is required to add.
13.5% in matching money. The
projects are expected to be com-
pleted inAugust.
