Port of Grapeview commissioners
had their first public hearings Nov. 2
on the port’s 2022 budget and the In-
dustrial Development District.
Commissioner Jean Farmer noted
several “relatively new things” on the
list of annual maintenance items for
the port’s boat launch, including:
I Install a steel plate on the piling to
keep the dock off the ground for $3,000
or build a concrete landing under the
foot of the dock for $1,500.

I Temporary repairs to southside
ramp for $200.
I Hire an engineer to design drain—
age for the southside ramp, and add
gravel to level off under floating dock
because the tide washes away the grav-
el yearly.
Farmer then questioned why a catch
basin by the port’s bathroom falls un-
der the port’s purview, because the wa-.

‘county road.
“I don’t know what the solution
is,” Commissioner Glenn Carlson
said. “It’s probably going to take some

Carlson reported having a conversa—
tion with the county assessor the pre-
vious week, and Carlson received the
data. the port required from the county
to complete its budget.
Farmer said the port has two more
public hearings scheduled on its budget
and IDD in November, during which
time those numbers can be considered

mulae “to have a more realistic look at
how things are going to do next year.”
Farmer added that the port plans to
extend its development district, “which
is part of our budget,” for six years,

the same” at 6 cents. She said for her, it
amounted to $10.08 in April and $10.09
in October.
“I think I have ‘an average-priced
house,” Farmer said. ‘
When Commissioner James Mad-
den asked whether some of the mainte-
nance expenses cited by Farmer might
instead be one—time capital expenses,
Farmer recalled how the maintenance
budget for her 30-year oyster business
was “crazy, because saltwater wrecks
everything.” ‘
