Clockwise from top: Michelle Jones, a pet supply manager in Tacoma, joined
YSS Dive shop owners Katherine and John Yackel on a
night dive, Nov. 6, to catch a glimpse of a red Pacific octopus exploring
the area around Sund Rock south of Hoodsport. Jones stat—
ed, “The red Pacific octopus can be identified because of the three skin
flaps, commonly called ‘eyelashes’ by divers, under their
eyes.” Two wolf eels stare down the barrel of a camera. A female giant
Pacific octopus is shown wrapping its tentacles around its eggs.
