Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” — James 1:19-20 I read a Story that I would like to share with you. It teaches us a valuable lesson about how our words, and our tempers, have a lot of impact on people. Nails In the Fence — Author Unknown There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence! Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and his father suggested that they boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the a St. David of Wales EPlSCOPAL CHURCH SUNDAY SERVICES Join Us for Online Worship at 10:30 am. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say . I’m sorry,‘the wound is still there.” The little boy then understood how powerful his words were. He looked up at his father and said, “I hope you can forgive me, father, for the holes I put in you.” “Of course I can,” said the father. I can imagine Jesus in this scenario, with His outstretched hands, and scars and holes from the nails. That will always remind us how much He loves us. “..but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 We have been talking about forgiveness and repentance, haven’t we? Christ died for us and forgave us while we are still sinners, because we ALL sin and fall short of His glorious standards! (Romans 3:23) Jesus will always have holes in His hands and feet, and his side, for all Eternity.‘We can repent and mature, but we will still sin, until He returns for us. Then He will give us perfect bodies, that will never sin but, until then, we have to bridle our tongues, and control our tempers. James 3:8 says, “but no human can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” The rest of that chapter tells us the tongue, one tiny member of the body, can produce an ‘enormity’ of evil. Whoever said “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me” was wrong. They sOmetimes leave the most lasting scars, and we cannot take back the things we say and do, even if we ask forgiveness. Like the damaged fence, the holes are still there. Even more reason to watch what we say and do! Now, I bet you guys are all nice, and don’t have a bad temper, but maybe you know someone who does, and you can share this story with them. BUT remind them Jesus loves them, no matter how many nails they have to drive into the fence trying to control their temper. He will work with them, and help them! And just like the father who forgave his son for the holes, our Father in heaven forgives us too! Don’t ever forget Jesus would have died just for YOU, even if you were the only person who ever loved Him! ‘ I am so thankful and grateful He loves me! How about you? Will Preach for .
