Obituaries _\ Robert Louis Taffera, Sr. m Robert Louis Taffera, Sr. (Bob) of Mount Vernon, Washington, passed away November 6, 2020,,quietly in his sleep after suffering a fairly rapid decline in health over the preced- ing Weeks. He was 80. r- Bob is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Mary, and a large family that loved him very much, including six children- , Robert Jr, Tami (Johnny), Feryl, Eric (Lau- ren), Mario, and Robyn (Bram); and four grandchildren; Dylan, Bek, Luca, and Evirley. Bob was born in Taylor, PA to Anthony and Vera Taffera. He grew up in Old Forge, PA, surrounded by a large, extended Italian-American family. He followed his fathers footsteps serving in the military, joining the US. Navy. He was stationed at Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in Washington State. There he met and married his wife Mary. After leaving the Navy he served in the Washington State Patrol, being stationed in Shelton, WA. He thereafter worked in construction and for the PUD electrical utility before retiring. Bob loved meeting people and was known for his gift of gab and hospitable nature. He enjoyed telling stories and sharing the wide range of experiences he had encountered throughout his life. Among his interests were hiking, mountain climbing, farming, Italian food, traveling, perennial renovations to the family home, and almost anything that his children did. Bob was a Seahawks fan before they were winning. His Faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnessescarried great meaning for him. On several occasions he enjoyed volunteering to help with con- structions at the‘ NY facilities. He valued the friendships he made and the time expended serving others. Bob spent considerable time at the family cabin near Leavenworth, WA, where he enjoyed snow- mobiling and visiting with local friends. He will be remembered as someone that loved his family deeply. He was proud and happy to see the efforts his children made to work together on various endeavors. He passed along a good work ethic and strong moral values. He will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends. Memorial Service will be held over Zoom November 28, 2020. Death Notices Marilyn C. Lawrence Lee Kenyon, 76, a resident of Skokomish Nation, died November 8, 2020, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton. Arrangements are by Forest Funeral Home and Crematory. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020 — Shelton-Mason County Journal - Page John Elwin Carnell, Jr. John Elwin Carnell, Jr. of McCleary, Wash- ington died on October 31, 2020, in a home i he built. He was 82. John was born on July 6, 1938, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to John and Iris Esther (Rickman) Carnell. John’s early 7 years were spent working on his family’s farm near Noel, Missouri. In 1952, the Carnell family migrated to Mc- _; Cleary. John attended McCleary Grade School ‘ and Elma‘ High School. In the early 1960s, John was married to Alma Cain, and their son Dan was born in 1961. In 1966, he mar- ried Carol Evans. Their son Darren was born in 1968, and Chris, in 1970. John found success through hard work, grit, and determination. He joined the US. Navy in 1957 and served in the Pacific on the USS King County, a guided missile test ship. In the 1960s, John worked in Simpson Timber Company’s mill in McCleary and for Rex Rosier Construction. In 1972, John started his own company, Camel] Con- struction. Over the next thirty years, he built a regional business. Throughout his life, John took on causes he believed in and fought for what he thought was right. He had a particular passion for helping those who were at a disadvantage. He was a strong supporter of the McCleary School District and had a long tradition of supporting an annual summer reading program. Over the years he also found great comfort in the faith community. Undeterred by declining health, John remained active until the end of his life. John’s greatest pride was his family. He supported them in every way in all that they did. He was preceded in death by his wife Car- ol, his parents, and his sister Ida Jo Logan, of Noel, Missouri. He is survived by his three sons and their families: Dan, of Rochester, Dan’s children Crystal, her husband Eric, and son Zane, of Olym- pia, Joshua, of Centralia, and David and his wife Micah, of Vacav- ille, California; Darren, his wife Julia, and their children Amelia and Ella, all of Seattle; and Chris and his wife Jamie, of Seattle. John is also survived by sisters Cherrie Camell, of McCleary, and Lynetta. Morris, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his brother Dennis and his wife Karen, of Elma; and numerous nieces and nephews. Late in life, John also enjoyed the companionship and loving care of Cyndy Parker, of Hoquiam. ' Consistent with John’s instructions, he will have an immediate burial. The family will commemorate his life in the next few months.
