"What we need," Hoag said,
"are several hundred volunteers.
The time has come when our
citizens want to do something
concrete about helping retarded

we mean to give them an
opportunity to do so. This takes
people, both those to actually

Four convicted
in park thefts
Four persons from the
Shelton area were found guilty of
larceny which occurred in the
Staircase area of Olympic
National Park, the National Park
Service said this week.
Sentences ranged from $50
fines to jail sentences and were
imposed by the U.S. Magistrate in
Tacoma.
The park services said the
park's criminal investigator, Steve
Kernes, had discovered in
investigation that five persons
from the Shelton area had been
camping in the Staircase area and
that, when they ran low on food,
they decided to steal what they
needed from fellow campers.
During the night, food and other
camping gear were taken from 11
campsites, the investigator found.
Some of those involved were
juveniles.
An arrest warrant has been
issued for the fifth person
involved, the park service
reported.
