animals also climbed up into his
grape arbors, cleaning up on the
grapes. Before his plums were
fully ripened, Bud had to pick

In another area three chickens
roosting up in a tree disappeared
during the night, with no outcry.
The next evening the faithful and
protective family dog took up the
chase and ran one large raccoon
up into a tall tree nearby about
11 p.m. The dog kept its vigilance
all night under the tree and
barked loudly when the animal
started to try to descend. This
drew the attention of the man of
the house who, with flashlight in
hand, also picked up his shotgun.
At 3 a.m. one blast and the large
wild animal which was hit but not
mortally wounded, fell from his
tall perch and started to take off.
However, the old dog took up the
chase and a real fight took place
- the raccoon hissing, snarling
and biting at the dog, who was
fighting it. The dog finally killed
the raccoon when it crawled
under a cabin.

Robin Hood Cafe, which has
been closed the past couple of

been informed some time in early
December, with the owner's, Mr.

while the Beckmans were in
California. Tillie Sherman also
had the cafe one season.
