Harpsichord recitals
are bein scheduled
Two identical harpsichord
recitals will be offered in Mason
County Episcopal Churches
November 23. The recitals will be
given by Michael Reiter of
Hoquiam. The first performance
will be at St. David's Church at
4th and Cedar in Shelton at 3
p.m. The second offering will be
at 8 p.m. in St. Hugh's Church in
Allyn. Receptions will follow
both programs and will give those
attending an opportunity to meet
Reiter. The main content of the
recitals will be music by J. S.
Bach, although other composers
and periods will also be presented.
Reiter will play a harpsichord
of his own construction and will
offer comments on the
harpsichord as an instrument and
its place in music history.
Reiter is a graduate of Pacific
Lutheran University with a degree
in church music and is currently
organist at the Episcopal Church
of the Holy Trinity in Hoquiam.
Proceeds from admission will go
to aid the work of the church in
Mason County.

The Washington State Liquor
Control Board this week
announced the expiration on May
31, 1976, of the five-year lease on
Liquor Store No. 30, located at
! 23 East Cota Street, Shelton.
The Washington State Liquor
Act provides that the board may
lease stores for a maximum term
of ten years, with an option to
renew for ten years. Rent being
paid by the Washington State
Liquor Control Board for the
present location is $550 per
month.
The announcement was made
in the public interest, according
to board member Don Eldridge
and, following board policy, to
give general notice of the
expiration of its leases, it was not
intended to indicate the board's
intentions respecting its present
Store No. 30 location, said
Eldridge.
Sales for the fiscal year ending
June 30, 1975 from Store No. 30
were $611,650.83, exclusive of
the state liquor taxes. Shelton's
share of statewide net profits
distributed by the board for the
same period was $52,268.07.
This distribution by the board
is not related to the local store's
revenue, but is on a per capita
basis related to the total net
profit distribution to the cities of
the state. Under the law, 50
percent of the board's
distribution of net proceeds goes
to the state's general fund, 40
percent to the cities, and 10
percent to the counties.
Emergency medical
council has meeting
At a recent meeting of the
Mason County Emergency
Medical Services Council, Richard
Angle and Richard Knight were
selected as Mason County's
representatives to the six-county
Regional EMS Council. Ron
Jacobsen will serve as alternate.
The council heard reports on
ambulance service in the county
and on the emergency room of
Mason General Hospital.
The group also discussed the
possibility of holding an
emergency medical technician
course in Shelton and further
investigation into the possibility
of a class will be explored.
The dates of the November
and December council meetings
were changed because the regular
meeting dates fall on
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The November meeting was
set for November 20 and the
December meeting for December
18.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
is conducting a tagging study in
Hood Canal to determine the
exact number of chum salmon
returning to the Skokomish River,
according to Roger Wolcott,
Fishery Management Biologist,
Tumwater Northwest Fisheries
Program.
Wolcott said that USFWS
biologists will be purse seining
one to two days per week off the
Skokomish River flats. The fish
will be carefully caught, tagged
and returned to the canal.
Wolcott said that the number
of fish going up the Skokomish
River can be determined by
comparing the number of tagged
fish caught to the total number of
fish caught and the number of
fish found dead in the spawning
grounds. Biologists will monitor
the fish buyers and the spawning
.grounds daily.
"This study will confirm or
modify pre-season predictions of
how many chum salmon are
returning to the Skokomish River.
It will also help to establish a firm
data base for use in predicting run
sizes in future years," said
Wolcott.
The Skokomish tagging study
is part of a broader U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Program designed to
improve accuracy of spawning
escapement and run size estimates
for all of Puget Sound. Other
tagging studies have been
conducted in Lake Washington,
P
on the Cedar and Sammamish
Rivers, on the Duwamish and
Green Rivers, and on the Puyallup
and Nisqually Rivers this year.
This survey will involve fish
bound for the Skokomish Indian
Reservation fishing grounds. It
will provide tribal fisheries
managers with much needed
information for regulating their
on-reservation fishery.
