By DOLORES DRAKE
Bob and Martha Michael's
daughter, Coral Irene (Kim) and
Richard Crabtree were honored at
a wedding reception November 15
at the Community Hall in
Hoodsport.
The couple is living in
Bellingham where Kim is
employed in a nursing home and
Richard is attending college.

Birthday Celebration
A birthday party was given
for Berta McKiel Monday in the
home of her daughter, Gloria
VanLaanen. Berta's daughter,
Betty Barber of Shelton, was
co-hostess. The celebration was
attended by ten guests.
Berta was born in Alberta,
Canada and she and her husband
moved to Hood Canal more than
50 years ago. Together they have
contributed much to the
expansion and prosperity of
Hoodsport. Shortly after the war,
they built the Hoodsport
aquarium and operated it for
many years. In the fifties they
built the Lighthouse Motel of
which they were also
owner-operators.
Guests Enjoy Rain
Last week Rudy and Betty
Schwab entertained their
son-in-law's mother, Myrtle and
husband Jack Morgan of Seattle.
Myrtle had been on the hatchery
grounds some 20 years ago and
Jack remembered the spot from a
visit here 30 years ago. However,
Jack hadn't visited on Hood Canal
during the winter as he couldn't
believe anyone could live here
with all the rain.
Last week's combined storms
of wind, rain, hail and snow did
not discourage the visitors. They
stayed two days, enjoying tile
beauty of the canal during the
brief clearings between
cloudbursts.
Scouts Construct Log Cabin
Hoodsport Boy Scout Troop
11 is building a 10xl0' log cabin
they will display at the Tumwater
Area Council Scout-A-Rama to be
held at Lacey Pavilion November
22. The scouts cut down the trees
and peeled 41xem. Now they are
busy notching the logs and
assembling the log cabin which
will be moved by trailer to Lacey.
Monday evening the
ttoodsport Boy Scouts held a
swim party at the Shelton High
School pool.
The scouts are planning a
winter incentive campout for the
weekend of December 6 and 7. In
order to participate, each scout
has to earn three merit badges
including the Citizenship Of The
Nation merit badge.
Good Citizenship Roll
Twenty-three Hood Canal
fourth and fifth grade students
have been named to the first
Good Citizenship Roll for their
classes. These grades do not have
an honor roll; however, the good
citizenship roll combines effort of
good citizenship plus good
academic involvement. Out of the
74 students in these classes, those
named to this roll are Gina Gray,
Melissa Johns, Stephanie White,
Rachel Williams, Lori Page, Kelly
McDonald, Mary Pavel, Michelle
West, Bonnie Helm, Esther
Estrada, Ross Archer, Raymond
Krise, Tena Gatewood, Sherelle
York, Danny Cultee, Cindy
Butters, Angle Ghramm, Danny
Cowles, Mark Barger, Terri Ragan,
Darlyn Wilbur, Allison Bowen and
Darlene Edwards.
Trip South
Carl and Dorothy Gleason
returned home late Friday after a
two-week vacation in the sunny
south. They went to Caliente,
Mexico to see the horse races,
visited in California, and stopped
in RenD, Nevada for some evening
entertainment.

Coffee And Pot
Caffeine may counteract the
effects of marijuana, says Dr.
Hugh Laird, University of
Arizona, Tucson. He found the
stimulant reversed abnormal
brain-wave and behavior
patterns produced by
tet r a h ydrocannabinol. Other
stimular~t~ (cocai~ne and
methamphetamine) caused the
research animals to stagger and
shake violently.
