Pour the liquid heaven into the buttered pan. Cool to room temperature - more patience re- quired. When cool, use a knife dipped in ice water to cut. Remove the patience, testing the first cara- mel and the second. Cut into squares and wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Discard remain- ing patience. Makes 21/2 pounds. For chocolate caramels, add two 2-oz. squares of unsweetened chocolate - cut into pieces - along with the sweetened condensed milk.
