Coroner reports
three-month-old
died in bassinet
The cause of death of a Shel-
ton infant who died on November
14 remains under investigation
by Mason County Coroner Wes
Stockwell and Shelton Police De-
partment.
Stockwell reported that 3-
month-old Jesiah Whip Bankem-
per was pronounced dead at ap-
proximately 6 p.m. on November
14 in the Emergency Room of
Mason General Hospital. Stock-
well said the infant had been
transported to the hospital from
a residence at 213 West Euclid
Street by medics after being
found unresponsive in his bas-
sinet.
The infant's 38-year-old
grandmother found the baby and
called 911, Shelton Police De-
tective Harry Heldreth told The
Journal. "Nothing appears to be
unusual at this point in the in-
vestigation."
An autopsy was performed on
the infant last Thursday. Stock-
well said the cause of death is
pending while toxicological and
tissue samples are examined by
a forensic pathologist.
Heldreth said ordering toxi-
cology tests is routine. "We don't
suspect there was any abuse of
medications or anything of that
nature," he said.
Wife: Pot user was
better after a coma
induced by alcohol
While her husband, Alexander,
continues to battle Crohn's dis-
ease and a severe sensitivity to
light, Kim Morris wonders when
the couple will get its medicinal
marijuana back from the Shelton
Police Department.
Last week, Kim Morris, 36,
and others spoke before the Shel-
ton City Commission about the
matter. Police served a search
warrant on the Morrises' apart-
ment in Shelton on November 8
and seized six small marijuana
plants and a small amount of
what Kim Morris contends is me-
dicinal marijuana.
Crohn's disease is a condition
of the digestive system and Alex-
ander Morris, 35, suffers fevers,
fatigue, diarrhea and headaches
from it, his wife said: He also has
problems with his speech stem-
ming from an alcohol-induced
coma in May 2005, Kim Morris
said Monday in an interview with
The Journal.
He has been using medicinal
marijuana since December 2006
and Kim Morris said he ingests it
daily in cookies or tea. She said
she monitors his daily dosage.
"We really keep track," she add-
ed. "I treat it as a medicine."
THE COUPLE has been mar-
ried nearly a year and a half.
They were dating when Alex-
ander, who had joined a 12-step
group and was in alcohol recovery
at the time, went into the coma,
Kim said.
She said he was on full life-
support and was given a slim
chance for survival. Kim and oth-
ers prayed over Alexander and
read Holy Scripture to him. His
coma ended after a little less than
36 hours. "When he came to, the
nurse almost fainted," she said.
Alexander tried 15 different
medications before marijuana,
which Kim said calms his head-
aches, helps with his sensitivity
to light and helps him to digest
food and keep his weight up. It
was the only medication he was
using on November 8, the day the
police came to their apartment.
"By them taking his medica-
tion, they have put my husband's
health in jeopardy," she said of
the police.
THE MORRISES have re-
tained a Seattle attorney who
has been trying to contact Mason
County Deputy Prosecuting At-
torney Mike Dorcy to discuss the
couple's situation and perhaps
head off future seizures of the
marijuana, Kim said, adding that
so far the attorney had not talked
with Dorcy.
She said she was born and
raised in Shelton, attends a lo-
cal church and neither drinks nor
uses drugs.

Coroner reports
three-month-old
died in bassinet
The cause of death of a Shel-
ton infant who died on November
14 remains under investigation
by Mason County Coroner Wes
Stockwell and Shelton Police De-
partment.
Stockwell reported that 3-
month-old Jesiah Whip Bankem-
per was pronounced dead at ap-
proximately 6 p.m. on November
14 in the Emergency Room of
Mason General Hospital. Stock-
well said the infant had been
transported to the hospital from
a residence at 213 West Euclid
Street by medics after being
found unresponsive in his bas-
sinet.
The infant's 38-year-old
grandmother found the baby and
called 911, Shelton Police De-
tective Harry Heldreth told The
Journal. "Nothing appears to be
unusual at this point in the in-
vestigation."
An autopsy was performed on
the infant last Thursday. Stock-
well said the cause of death is
pending while toxicological and
tissue samples are examined by
a forensic pathologist.
Heldreth said ordering toxi-
cology tests is routine. "We don't
suspect there was any abuse of
medications or anything of that
nature," he said.
Wife: Pot user was
better after a coma
induced by alcohol
While her husband, Alexander,
continues to battle Crohn's dis-
ease and a severe sensitivity to
light, Kim Morris wonders when
the couple will get its medicinal
marijuana back from the Shelton
Police Department.
Last week, Kim Morris, 36,
and others spoke before the Shel-
ton City Commission about the
matter. Police served a search
warrant on the Morrises' apart-
ment in Shelton on November 8
and seized six small marijuana
plants and a small amount of
what Kim Morris contends is me-
dicinal marijuana.
Crohn's disease is a condition
of the digestive system and Alex-
ander Morris, 35, suffers fevers,
fatigue, diarrhea and headaches
from it, his wife said: He also has
problems with his speech stem-
ming from an alcohol-induced
coma in May 2005, Kim Morris
said Monday in an interview with
The Journal.
He has been using medicinal
marijuana since December 2006
and Kim Morris said he ingests it
daily in cookies or tea. She said
she monitors his daily dosage.
"We really keep track," she add-
ed. "I treat it as a medicine."
THE COUPLE has been mar-
ried nearly a year and a half.
They were dating when Alex-
ander, who had joined a 12-step
group and was in alcohol recovery
at the time, went into the coma,
Kim said.
She said he was on full life-
support and was given a slim
chance for survival. Kim and oth-
ers prayed over Alexander and
read Holy Scripture to him. His
coma ended after a little less than
36 hours. "When he came to, the
nurse almost fainted," she said.
Alexander tried 15 different
medications before marijuana,
which Kim said calms his head-
aches, helps with his sensitivity
to light and helps him to digest
food and keep his weight up. It
was the only medication he was
using on November 8, the day the
police came to their apartment.
"By them taking his medica-
tion, they have put my husband's
health in jeopardy," she said of
the police.
THE MORRISES have re-
tained a Seattle attorney who
has been trying to contact Mason
County Deputy Prosecuting At-
torney Mike Dorcy to discuss the
couple's situation and perhaps
head off future seizures of the
marijuana, Kim said, adding that
so far the attorney had not talked
with Dorcy.
She said she was born and
raised in Shelton, attends a lo-
cal church and neither drinks nor
uses drugs.
