nn,ng IAN N 31 MEETING A census of about one-third of Mason County will be conducted between December 1-14 as a part of the Trident planning effort, the Mason County Planner's Office has announced. There will be nine census-takers, the planner's office said, and they will be identified by letter. The census will be made door to door. The area to be included in the census is that north of Shelton and Hamrnersley Inlet and east of Highway 101 and Hood Canal. This area was selected because it is the area of the county which will be most affected by the Trident installation. There are also ground patrols which travel through the area at night and during the day. The Christmas Tree Growers Association provides money which is used to pay off-duty deputies and reserve deputies to make the ground patrols and to pay for the equipment used in the air patrol. Pacific Northwest Bell contest is The Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans to again sponsor the annual Christmas Decoration Contest, with the project being directed by Epsilon Omicron, chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. All entries must be received by December 12 at 4 p.m. and the judging will take place December 14 between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. All displays to be judged should be completed and lighted during the hours when the judging is being held. Awards this year will include dinner for two as first prize in the three top categories: Religious, outdoor displays and novelty (including window painting). A trophy will be awarded to the first place commercial entry. Lighting will not be a separate category, but may be included in any display. The entry blank printed below should be fdled out and mailed to the Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 666, Shelton, or delivered to the chamber office in the PUD 3 building. (Entry forms are required for commercial entries.) The offering will be sent to the church's program toward alleviating world hunger. 1"he official election returns from the November 4 primary election have been completed by the County Auditor's Office. The official returns include all of the absentee ballots and canvass of the ballots counted the day of the election. The official returns show that 7,731 voters turned out in Mason County for the primary election. The official returns made no change in the results from the unofficial returns on the Shelton City Commission races. The official returns show James Lowery with 1,478 votes for mayor to 729 for incumbent Frank Travis. Brad Owen received 1 ,497 votes for finance commissioner to 730 for David Kneeland in official returns on that contest. In the Shelton School Board contest, official returns give incumbent Dr. Mark Trucksess 1,880 votes to 1,635 for George Hermes. In other contested races in the county, official returns show: Southside School Board, Richard Jenner, 193 and John Makoviney, 106. Grapeview School District proposal for division of the district into director districts, yes, 135 and no, 179. Pioneer School Board, John Trauba, 231 and John Mroczek, 210. Hood Canal School Board, John Hays, 430 and Molly Oberbillig, 306. Belfair Fire District, Robert Kern, 371 and Earl Kisler, 352. Arcadia Fire District, C. Henry Williams, 215; Jim Sadler, 268 and Edwin Crossan, 221. Arcadia Fire District special levy, yes 422 and no 389. The special levy failed because it did not get the necessary 60 percent favorable vote needed to pass. Fire District Five, Thomas Brokaw, 468 and Robert Phillips, 292. Tahuya Fire District, Jack King, 45 and Ernest Aries, 95. Cloquallum Fire District bond issue, yes, 83 and no, 29. The bond issue passed with a vote in favor of about 74 percent. Belfair Cemetery District, Lowell Genselman, 353 and William DeMiero, 454 Official returns on the statewide issues showed Mason County voters gave Democrat Kay Anderson 4,087 votes to 3,310 for Bruce Chapman for Secretary of State. Stateside, Chapman won the race for the position to which he had been appointed earlier in the year. Other official returns on stateside issues were: Initiative 3 1 4, corporate income tax, 4,983 no and 2,582 yes. Initiative 316 ~osition of the death penalty, yes, 5,676 and no, 1,748.
