Martin's big season saw the 6-3, 215-pound defensive terror make 82 solo tackles, running his all-time Climber record in that department to 181 - 43 more than the next best, Tracy Armstrong's 138 amassed during the 1969-71 seasons. The fleet Shab caught 13 passes this year for 225 yards and four touchdowns - despite attracting double coverage most of the season. He also had four pass defenses and was among the team leaders in quarterback sacks. Zamzow had 27 tackles and played what Coach Jack Stark describes as intelligent football throughout the campaign, while Jeff McGee anchored what proved statistically to be the best defensive secondary in recent Climber history. League champs North Thurston led the balloting with nine players on the first team, while Timberline was next with six - all on offense. Shelton, with five, and Tumwater, with two, were the only other teams with more than one representative. Ms. Neth explained that, while a team of seven has been assembled, it represents the group first interested in promoting a league - not recruits.
