Most Indian villages do not
have schools with 12 grades so
girls must leave home if they
pursue an education. In Warud
girls may attend through college
level. More than 100 girls, first
grade through college-age, board
at GCI. To minimize expenses
they do most of their own
cooking and washing.
Because the village girls were
unable to meet the academic
standards of the town schools,
even with special tutoring, GCI
started its own primary school in
1973. Sunrise School now has
government-recognized seven
grades. Miss Kludt oversaw the
development of the school and
hostel. As more children applied
to live at GCI and attend Sunrise
School, staff quarters, a kitchen
and classrooms were added.
The public is welcome to
attend and hear Miss Kludt.
