Razor clam diggers on
Washington beaches are reminded
to be on the lookout for marked
clams, according to an
announcement made by Fisheries
Director Don Moos.
Every year as part of shdlfish
research efforts, fisheries
biologists mark a number of razor
clams on ocean beaches. Markings
consist of a letter (which may be
standard or Greek alphabet) and a
number.
When a marked clam is
recovered, shellfish biologists
check its size with the size
recorded at time of marking, and
thus gauge the clam's growth rates
and patterns.
Marked razor clam shells may
be turned in to a fisheries patrol
officer or to the department's
laboratory in Aberdeen. If the
shell cannot be turned in,
Aberdeen lab biologists would
appreciate a telephone call, giving
the number on the shell and the
measurement of the shell's size.
The number of the Aberdeen
lab is 532-0761.

SHOP BOB'S SHOE TREE DOWNTOWN 9:30 TO 5:30, FRIDAY UNTIL 8:30...107 SOUTH FOURTH, SHELTON
THERE'S MORE TO OUR WRIGHT ARCH PRESERVER SHOES THAN MEETS THE EYE
THE "BUMP"
Put your finger inside the shoe
and feel the slight raise (or
bump) in the leather insole just
forward of the arch. This little
bump fits right into the hollow
of your foot just back of the
ball joints. It positions your foot
and allows toes to spread so that
you walk comfortably and
easily. It's the most important
reason why men who wear our
shoes won't wear any others.
THE STEEL SHANK
The steel shank which fits
between the inner and outer sole
is the strongest of any used in
the industry. This steel shank
makes a strong firm bridge
between the flat forepart of the
shoe and the heel area.
OUR CALFSKINS
Practically all of our shoes are
made with imported calfskins.
The best is in limited quantity
and we only buy the best. Each
skin is carefully cut to assure
matched graining in each pair of
shoes. Each skin receives
individual and special treatments
in our finishing rooms to bring
out the rich natural beauty of
the leather. That is why your
shoes have a "customized"
a ppeara nce.
THE VELVET FINISH OF
THE OUTERSOLE
Many of our shoes are made
with velvet finished leather
outsoles. These soles are treated
with a solution of chrome salts
which makes the fibers of the
leather more flexible and at the
same time longer wearing. The
leather insole of the shoe is also
made flexible by a special
tanning process.
