Virginia Ehlers
Former Shelton resident Vir-
ginia Brown Ehlers died unexpect-
edly of natural causes on Novem-
ber 21, at her home in Brookings,
Oregon. She was 83.
She was born
on February 14,
1924 in Shelton
to Daniel C. and
Effie M. (Bloom-
field) Brown.
She was
raised at Ka-
milche Point and
graduated from
Irene S. Reed
High School. She i
worked in the Virginia
telephone office
of the Bremer- Ehlers
ton naval ship-
yard, and while there met her fu-
ture husband, Dale Hugh Ehlers.
The couple married on Febru-
ary 25, 1943 in Bremerton. They
moved to Cave Junction, Oregon,
in 1947 where Mrs. Ehlers was a
homemaker. In 1960, the family
moved to Brookings, where they
purchased a share in the Brook-
ings Plywood Corporation, built a
home and settled their family.
From 1964 to 1967, she worked
seasonally in the lily fields, and
later for Brookside Nursery. She
worked in the reservation booth at
Harris Beach State Park and as a
camp host for 20 years.
Mrs. Ehlers-was a member
of the Star of the Sea Catholic
Church. She enjoyed gardening,
but her passion in life was her
family, especially her grandchil-
dren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters
Carmen Nukala of Coos Bay, Or-
egon, and Nancy Westbrook and
husband Richard of Smith River,
California; son Brad Ehlers of
Gold Beach, Oregon; brother Dan
Brown and wife Pat of Shelton;
sister Ruth Creekpaum and hus-
band John "Stub" of McCleary;
grandchildren Candeance Nukala
and Michelle Ehlers, great-grand-
children Alyssa Matas and Tra-
vis Javalet and many nieces and
nephews ....
She was preceded in death by
her husband on May 20 of this
year; grandson Travis Ehlers on
July 29, 1987; brothers Edward,
Joseph, William and Henry Brown;
and sister Francis Selvidge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at noon on Thursday,
November 29, at Saint Edward's
Catholic Church in Shelton, with
interment to follow at Shelton Me-
morial Park.

Memorial Chapel, Brookings, and
McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.
Chester Devereaux
Chester L. Devereaux died of
natural causes on Monday, No-
vember 19, at Shelton Health and
Rehabilitation Center. He was 91
and lived in Hoodsport the past
three years.
He was born on March 27, 1916
in Carmen, Oklahoma, to Frank
and Edna (Robinson) Devereaux.
The family moved to Oregon after
World War I. Mr. Devereaux lived
in Oregon until 1957, when he
moved to Seattle to work for The
Boeing Company.
He served in the Marine Corps
during World War II. He mar-
ried Mary E. Bennett. She died in
1986.
Mr. Devereaux worked as a rou-
terman for Boeing and retired af-
ter 17 years.
Surviving are son Ronald Roy
Devereaux of Auburn; stepdaugh-
ter Jeanette Wolfenbarger of
Hoodsport; sisters Fern Storment
and Betty Garvin of Eugene, Ore-
gon, and Rose Raish of Springfield,
Oregon; three grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and numer-
ous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held 9n
Monday, November 26, at Moun-
tain View Cemetery in Auburn.
Pastor Dee Bulante officiated.

Longtime Shelton resident Mar-
garet Irene Hooker died of natural
causes on Tuesday, November 20,
at Alpine Way Retirement Center.
She was 100 and had lived in Shel-
ton 51 years.
She was born
on January 27,
1907 in Ozark,
Arkansas, to
Fredrick A. and
Maggie E. (Cor-
nett) Richter.
She lived at
Channel Point
on Arcadia Road
for more than 30
years. Margaret
She married Hooker
Chester Hooker
on May 4, 1956
in Anacortes. He in 2001.
Mrs. Hooker worked for 25
years as an accountant for Amera-
da Petroleum Company in Tulsa,
Oklahoma.
A member of Bethel Assembly
of God Church in Shelton, she en-
joyed her church, reading her Bible
and had a real heart for missionar-
ies. She also enjoyed her animals
and taking care of Mr. Hooker,
also known as Papa or Bear.
Surviving are son Murray J.
Hooker and wife Sylvia of Maple
Valley; daughter Pearl L. Poellot
and husband Harry of Mahopac,
New York; six grandchildren,
10 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Her son Mervin Hooker also
preceded her in death in 1969.
A funeral service was held on
Tuesday, November 27, at the
Bethel Assembly of God Church
in Shelton. The Reverend Keith
Arensmeyer officiated. Burial was
at Shelton Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be

Theodore L. "Ted", Runyan died
suddenly of natural causes at his
home in Shelton on Friday, No-
vember 23. He was 75 and had
lived in Shelton 17 years.
He was born

(King) Runyan.
He served in
the Air Force
from 1952 to
1956. He mar-
ried Gwen C.

Mr. Runyan Runyan
worked for The
Boeing Company as an electronics
technician for 30 years.
He enjoyed golfing and bowling
and was an expert handyman and
mechanic. He volunteered at the
Mason County Senior Activities
Center and was a Eucharistic min-
ister and acolyte at Saint Edward's
Catholic Church in Shelton.
Surviving are wife Gwen C. Ru-
nyan of Shelton; brothers Flavel
Runyan of Columbia City, Oregon,
and Bud Runyan of Saint Helens,
Oregon; sons Tim Runyan and
wife Jo Anne of Tacoma and John
Runyan and wife Lori' of Kent;
daughters Laura Thomas and
husband David of Des Moines and
Kathy Iverson and husband Chris
of Olympia; and grandchildren
Jennifer and Kristina Runyan and

He was preceded in death by

Mary Cora (Gouvia) Danise
died of natural causes on Wednes-
day, November 21, at Harborview
Medical Center in Seattle. She was
82 and had lived in Grapeview the
past four years.
She was born on January 29,
1925 in Berkley, Massachusetts,
to Cyril and Christine (Mendez)
Gouvia.
She married Felice Panama
Danise on September 6, 1947 in
Taunton, Massachusetts.
After her children were grown,
she spent her working career as a
certified nurse's aide for Glen Hill
Convalescent Home in Danbury,
Connecticut.
Mrs. Danise loved to roller
skate, dance and crochet blankets
for members of her family. She
especially loved spending time
with her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. She was a previ-
ous member of the Bethel Senior
Center and Saint Mary's Catholic
Church in Bethel.
Surviving are husband Felice
Danise of Grapeview; daughters
Linda Zaccaro and husband Nick
of Xchelt, Mexico, and Christine
Haskell and husband Scott of
Grapeview; sons Phillip Danise
and wife Katie and Richard Dan-

Elizabeth Marie (Robideau)
Brosnahan, a member of the
White Earth Chippewa and South
Dakota Sioux tribes, died on No-
vember 14 at her home in Shelton.
She was 71.
She was born on December 6,
1935 in Devils Lake, North Da-
kota, to William R. Robideau and
Annie Jane Jetty. She was one of
17 children in the family.
She stayed active until the end
of her life, enjoying time with her
family and winning at the local ca-
sino.
Surviving are husband Patrick
Brosnahan of Shelton; daughters
Paula Munoz of Santa Rosa, Cali-
fornia, and Lisa Rodarte of Seat-
tle; sister Ida Robideau Stiffarm
of Billings, Montana, and Patri-
cia Bear of Everett; and brothers
William "Billy" Robideau Jr. and
Clarence Robideau, both of Port-
land, Oregon.

John Henry Eliason, a longtime
Shelton resident, died of cancer
on Wednesday, November 21, in
Shelton. He was 83 and had lived
in Shelton 82 years.
He was born

ated from Irene

School in 1942
and attended
the University
of Alaska and John H.
Saint Martin's Eliason
College.
He served in the Navy from
1942 to 1946.
Mr. Eliason married Jane Brant
in 1954 in Vancouver.
He was a boom man for Simp-
son Timber Company for 30 years
and a volunteer firefighter with
the Shelton Fire Department for
30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and
hiking. He was a member of the
American Legion, Agate Grange,
Mason County Historical Society
and National Rifle Association.
Surviving are wife Jane Eliason
of Shelton; daughters Faie Elia-
son Fischer of Shelton and Connie
Conlin and husband Michael of
Issaquah; grandsons John and Pe-
ter Conlin of Issaquah; and sister
Mary Anderson of Vancouver.
He was preceded in death by

Helen Florence Beerbower, 86,
a Shelton resident since 1946, died
of natural causes on Monday, No-
vember 26, at her home.
Born on January 18, 1921 in Al-
lentown, Pennsylvania, to Peter
and Bessie (Hiligoss) Trapp, she
married Leonard Beerbower in
1944 in Stockton, California.
Mrs. Beerbower was a home-
maker, caregiver and oyster
shucker. She enjoyed crocheting,
canning and preserving and-visit-
ing people.
Surviving are sons Ed Beerbow-
er and wife Lynette of Elma and
Charles Beerbower and wife Diane
Cuzick of Lilliwaup; daughter-in-
law Peggy Beerbower of Shelton;
sisters Margaret Orner and Verna

John H. Eliason
John Henry Eliason, a longtime
Shelton resident, died of cancer
on Wednesday, November 21, in
Shelton. He was 83 and had lived
in Shelton 82 years.
He was born
on July 6, 1924
in Tenino to
Etna (Keithahn)
and John Elia-
son.
He gradu-
ated from Irene
S. Reed High
School in 1942
and attended
the University
of Alaska and John H.
Saint Martin's Eliason
College.
He served in the Navy from
1942 to 1946.
Mr. Eliason married Jane Brant
in 1954 in Vancouver.
He was a boom man for Simp-
son Timber Company for 30 years
and a volunteer firefighter with
the Shelton Fire Department for
30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and
hiking. He was a member of the
American Legion, Agate Grange,
Mason County Historical Society
and National Rifle Association.
Surviving are wife Jane Eliason
of Shelton; daughters Faie Elia-
son Fischer of Shelton and Connie
Conlin and husband Michael of
Issaquah; grandsons John and Pe-
ter Conlin of Issaquah; and sister
Mary Anderson of Vancouver.
He was preceded in death by
daughter Peggy Eliason and sister
June Thayer.
Inurnment will be in Tenino.

Helen Beerbower
Helen Florence Beerbower, 86,
a Shelton resident since 1946, died
of natural causes on Monday, No-
vember 26, at her home.
Born on January 18, 1921 in Al-
lentown, Pennsylvania, to Peter
and Bessie (Hiligoss) Trapp, she
married Leonard Beerbower in
1944 in Stockton, California.
Mrs. Beerbower was a home-
maker, caregiver and oyster
shucker. She enjoyed crocheting,
canning and preserving and-visit-
ing people.
Surviving are sons Ed Beerbow-
er and wife Lynette of Elma and
Charles Beerbower and wife Diane
Cuzick of Lilliwaup; daughter-in-
law Peggy Beerbower of Shelton;
sisters Margaret Orner and Verna
Neimiller of Pennsylvania; seven
grandchildren, six great-grand-
children and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her husband in 2000, son Larry
Beerbower in 2005 and daughter
Carol Ann Beerbower in 1945.
A memorial service will be held
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December
1, at Hope Chapel, 421 West E
Street in Shelton. Her ashes will
be inurned at Shelton Memorial
Park.
