COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION

AMENDING RESOLUTION 48-97
COUNTY ROAD PROJECT NO. 1563
WHEREAS, on Mason County Road No.
79800 known locally as the Bear Creek-De-
Rain garden
book brings
benefits to
environment
The Mason County Extension of
Washington State University has
a new publication: Rain Garden
Handbook for Western Washing-
ton Homeowners.
The publication is subtitled,
"Designing your landscape to pro-
tect our streams, lakes, bays and
wetlands."
Rain gardens are landscaped
shallow depressions in a yard that
are shaped and sized to fit and
constructed with soil mixes that
allow water to soak in rapidly
and support plant growth. They
can be landscaped with a variety
of plants. A rain garden acts like
native vegetation by collecting, ab-
sorbing and filtering stormwator
runoff from rooftops, driveways,
patios and other areas that don't
allow water to soak in.
They can help reduce flooding
or pooling while filtering oils and
grease from driveways, fertilizers
and pesticides from lawns, and
other pollutants before they reach
a storm drain or ditch. Rain gar-
dens also increase the amount of
water that soaks into the ground
and provide habitat for beneficial
insects and birds.
The handbook walks readers
through four stops to building a
rain garden: locate; design and
build; plant; and maintain. Cop-
ies may be obtained for $5.41 each
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday at the extension
office at 11840 North Highway
101, Shelton.
State penalizes
local company
The Washington State De-

Mix of Shelton.

and stormwator sampling results
while failing to control sources of
pollution to groundwater and sur-
face water."
The penalty was issued on Au-
gust 15, part of $256,940 in penal-
ties issued during the third quar-
tor of this year. Altogether, the
department has issued $1,743,612
in penalties this year.

COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION

AMENDING RESOLUTION 48-97
COUNTY ROAD PROJECT NO. 1563
WHEREAS, on Mason County Road No.
79800 known locally as the Bear Creek-De-
Rain garden
book brings
benefits to
environment
The Mason County Extension of
Washington State University has
a new publication: Rain Garden
Handbook for Western Washing-
ton Homeowners.
The publication is subtitled,
"Designing your landscape to pro-
tect our streams, lakes, bays and
wetlands."
Rain gardens are landscaped
shallow depressions in a yard that
are shaped and sized to fit and
constructed with soil mixes that
allow water to soak in rapidly
and support plant growth. They
can be landscaped with a variety
of plants. A rain garden acts like
native vegetation by collecting, ab-
sorbing and filtering stormwator
runoff from rooftops, driveways,
patios and other areas that don't
allow water to soak in.
They can help reduce flooding
or pooling while filtering oils and
grease from driveways, fertilizers
and pesticides from lawns, and
other pollutants before they reach
a storm drain or ditch. Rain gar-
dens also increase the amount of
water that soaks into the ground
and provide habitat for beneficial
insects and birds.
The handbook walks readers
through four stops to building a
rain garden: locate; design and
build; plant; and maintain. Cop-
ies may be obtained for $5.41 each
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday at the extension
office at 11840 North Highway
101, Shelton.
State penalizes
local company
The Washington State De-

Mix of Shelton.

while failing to control sources of
pollution to groundwater and sur-
face water."
The penalty was issued on Au-
gust 15, part of $256,940 in penal-
ties issued during the third quar-
tor of this year. Altogether, the
department has issued $1,743,612
in penalties this year.
