Two house fires kept
Mason County fire crews
busy over Thanksgiving
weekend.
Central Mason Fire &
EMS crews responded to a
structure fire at about 4:45
a.m. on Nov. 22, Thanks-
giving morning, at 1422
Mason St. in Shelton.
Central Mason, Mason
County Fire Districts 4
and 11, the Shelton Police
Department and Mason
County PUD 3 person-
nel responded to the fire.
Crews determined that the
fire began in the home's
chimney.
Before leaving the house,
the homeowners were able
to extinguish much of the
fire themselves and shut
off the house's electricity
at the breaker box, author-
ities said.
Fire crews extinguished
the fire and estimated
damage to the home at
about $10,000.
Because the damage was
minimal and localized in
the kitchen, the residents
were able to stay in their
home.
On Sunday, Central Ma-
son fire crews responded to
another house fire at 10:10
p.m. at 1022 Turner Ave.
in Shelton.
Crews arrived to find
visible flames coming from
the house.
Firefighters extin-
guished the fire, and all
residents escaped the fire
without injuries.
Central Mason Fire
Chief Tim McKern said
this fire was likely caused
by an electrical malfunc-
tion in the home's clothes
dryer.
Damage to the home is
estimated to cost $100,000.
Central Mason received
assistance at this fire from
Fire Districts 4 and 11,
PUD 3 and the Shelton Po-
lice Department.
Above, an electrical
problem in a clothes
dryer likely started
a fire that caused
$100,000 damage at
a house on Sunday
on Turner Avenue
in Shelton. At right,
a fireflghter surveys
the damage.
