William P. Heagy
William P. Heagy, 85,
died Thursday, Nov. 24, at
his home in Issaquah. He
was a previous longtime
resident of Union.
He was born Oct. 15,
1926, in Sheridan, Wyo. to
Perin and Cathryn (Rob-
ertson) Heagy.
He served in the U.S.
Army during WWII.
He married Marjorie
Houston Shreve on Feb.
19, 2006, in Union. He
was previously married to
Katherine E. Steinke for
55 years until her death.
He had worked as a civil
engineer for the Federal
Highway Administration
in Wyoming, California
and Washington and for
the U.S. Navy Defense De-
partment, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the
Alderbrook Country Club
and enjoyed playing golf
and spending time with
his family in Arizona dur-
ing the winter months. He
had attended the Union
Community Church while
living in Union.
He is survived by his
wife Marjorie Shreve of
Issaquah; son William P.
Heagy Jr. of Bakersfield,
Calif.; daughters Jean
van Bladeren (Ron) of
Vancouver and Linda Mc-
Gonigal (Larry) of Bakers-
field, Calif.; sister Wilma
Sheldon of Washington;
sister-in-law Maxie Heagy
of Sheridan, Wyo.; step-
daughter Laura Calvin
of College Station, Texas;
stepson Ken Shreve of
Sammamish; aunt Jean-
nie Kuhlman of Mesa,
Ariz.; nine grandchildren
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his wife Kath-
erine E. Heagy; daughter
Diane Leigh Heagy and
brother Jimmy Lee Heagy.
No service will be held.

Kathryn Hoit
Kathryn (O'Hara) Holt,
90, died Nov. 19.
She was born on Jan.
22, 1921, in Aberdeen. Her
family moved to National,
which was a sawmill town

met Bob
Hoit. Na-
tional no
longer ex-
ists.
She
attended
High
School in Eatonville.
She married Bob Hoit
on Dec. 25, 1941. They
moved to Shelton in 1946.
In 1965, they moved to the
Hood Canal South Shore
where she lived until her
death.
She enjoyed her family
and their boat, the White-
cap III. She enjoyed trips
and cruises to the San
Juan Islands and the west
coast of British Columbia.
She is survived by her
husband of 70 years (this
Christmas) Bob Hoit;
daughters Sally Loomis of
Union and Carol Camp-
bell of Port Orchard; son
Charles Hoit of Smokey
Point; nine grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchil-
dren.

Stanley Dominic Lapinski
Stanley Dominic Lap-
inski, 91, died Nov. 20, in
Belfair.
He was born Sept. 27,
1920, in Pennsylvania.
He enjoyed hunting and
fishing.
He is survived by his
daughter Tina Novelli of
Belfair, brother Anthony
of Bremerton and grand-
children Joshua Hauge of
Vancouver, Shane Sow-
ers of Shelton and Shawn
Sowers of Shelton.
His wife Mary Novelli
Lapinski preceded him in
death in 2005.
No services are planned.
Francis L. Kuhnline
Francis L. Kuhnline, 89,
died Saturday, Nov. 19, at
Mason General Hospital.
He was a resident of Shel-
ton for two years.
He was born Aug. 20,
1922, in Carrollton, Ill.,
to Frank G. and Thecla
(Grummel) Kuhnline.
He graduated from St.
John
~Grade
and High
School in
1940.
He
served in
the U.S.
Army
from
Francis Oct. 28,
1942, to
Kuhnline 1946. He
trained
in the States and went to
the European Theatre in
November 1944. He was
awarded a Bronze Star
Medal for his service in
Germany in 1945. He
was discharged in Janu-
ary 1946 at Camp Grant,
Ill.
He married Agnes Gru-
eter at St. Michael Catho-
lic Church, Greenfield, Ill.,
on Oct. 4, 1991. He was
previously married to Em-
ily Daum in 1946.
Kuhnline was engaged
in farming in Illinois for
more than 40 years. He
led the Rubicon 4-H Club
for 16 years. He was a
director for Lincoln Farm
Management bookkeeping
service in Illinois and he
was a director and officer
for the Greene County
Farm Bureau and Greene
County Farm Supply Co.
He was director of West
Central Illinois district
of Growmark, the farm
supply co-op and was also
a member and officer of
Fitzsimmons Post 225 at
Greenfield, Ill. Kuhnline
was active in his church,
St. Michaels in Green-
field, Ill. and St. Edward's
Catholic Church in Shel-
ton.
He is survived by his
wife Agnes Kuhnline of
Shelton; sons Edward
Kuhnline of Rock Bridge,
Ill., Donald Kuhnline of
Carrollton, Ill. and Wil-
liam Kuhnline of Green-
field, Ill.; stepsons Patrick
Holladay of California
and Paul Holladay from
Portland, Ore.; stepdaugh-
ter Mary Ann Schaffer of
West Linn, Ore.; brother
Joseph Kuhnline of Al-
ton, Ill.; sisters Barbara
Rawe of Greenfield, Ill.
and Thecla Kuhnline
O.P. of Jackson, Miss.;
three grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, six
step-grandchildren and 13
great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, wife
Emily Daum, son James

Nov. 28 at St. Michael
Catholic Church in Green-
field, Ill.

Michael E. Mills
Michael Mills, 64, died
Nov 20, after a six-year
battle with prostate can-
cer. He was a resident of
Olympia.
He was born March 1,
1947, in Portland, Ore., to
Wyman and Betty Mills.
He moved
~with his
family to
Shelton
in 1964
where he
graduated
from Shel-
ton High
School in
Michael 1965. He
Mills attended
Centralia
and Olym-
pic Colleges.
He served in Vietnam
for the U.S. Army.
Mills spent his career
working for the State of
Washington. After 40
years of service he retired
as a compliance man-
ager for the Energy Siting
Council (EFSEC).
Mills was a sports fan
who bowled for nearly 40
years and served in nu-
merous capacities for the
bowling association dur-
ing that time, enjoying
especially being the chair
of the youth bowling schol-
arship. He enjoyed the
Sonics, Mariners and Se-
ahawks, but had a special
attachment to the Dodgers
since he was a young boy.
The family said to be close
to his children, he .coached
and became president of
Thurston County Little
Baseball. He belonged to
the VFW, Moose, Eagles
and the USBC. His family
said he was an inspiration
to all those who knew him
through his positive atti-
tude, strength and dignity
in dealing with his illness.
He is survived by his
wife of 39 years, Merrily;
sons Brent (Sherrie) and
Kevin Mills; brothers Rob
(Trudy), John (Claire) and
David; nephews Frazier
and Charles; nieces Jenni-
fer and Erica and numer-
ous other relatives.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and
brother Steve Mills.
A memorial service will
be held at 1 p.m., on Dec.
3, at Woodlawn Funeral
Home located at 5930 Mul-
len Rd. S.E. Lacey. In lieu
of flowers, donations can
be made in his honor to
the Youth Bowling Schol-

John Russell Riggins
Jr., 80, died Saturday,
Nov. 26, at Madigan Army
Medical Center. He was a
resident of Shelton for 28
years.
He was born March 4,
1931 in Dyersburg, Tenn.

He served in the U.S.

eling the U.S. every year
in his little motor home. •
He is survived by his
wife Iva Riggins of
Shelton; son John Riggins
(Dorothy) of Woodbridge,
Va.; sister Martha Hester
of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three
grandchildren, four great-
grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents,
daughter Marcia RiggillS
and brother Tom Riggins.
A graveside service will
be held at 11:15 a,m. on
Friday, Dec. 2 at the Ta-
homa National Cemetery,
in Kent.

Michael Keith Shanks,
67, died Nov. 26, at Selah
Convalescent in Selah. He
was a resident of Yakima.
He recently moved from
Shelton to Yakima.
He was born in Yakima
in 1944.
He lived in Shelton and
retired from the forest
product industry as a ply-
wood edge gluer.
He is survived by his
wife Barbara Shanks of

Terry E. Davenport
i Terry Davenport, 60, of Olympia, went home to be with his Lord and
Savior, on November 27, 2011, due to complications from a stroke.
He was born on April 8, 1951 in Woodbury, New Jersey to Edward
and Mildred Davenport. He graduated from Pennsville High School
in 1970. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, New York State, Germany,
Korea, and Fort Lewis, WA, 1970-1985 with the US Army, Sergeant
First Class. After his years in the military, Terry joined the Tumwater
Police Department as a patrolman, lieutenant patrolman and detective, and
acting commander. He was responsible for bringing the D.A.R.E. program to
Tumwater schools during that time.
In 2001, Terry realized a lifelong goal to become a police chief. From 2001-2011, he served in that
capacity in Shelton, WA. During that time, he had the opportunity to attend and graduate from the
217th Session of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, in 2004. Upon retirement in March, 2011,
he became a program manager for the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. He was a member
of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, Kiwanis, United Way, various other
organizations, and helped in the implementation of Drug Court in Mason County.
Terry enjoyed woodworking, boating, bowling, and golf. He loved his family and friends deeply
and cherished his time with them. Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa, of 21 years, 2
sons and 2 daughters, Aaron, Seth, Elise (Brimhall) and Linda(Mott), his mother, Mildred, his
brother, Larry (Barb), and sister, Nancy Hadley, grandchildren, Olivia and Daris Brimhall, Hunter
Fields, Emma and Madison Mott, and numerous other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his father, his sister, Sandy, and son, Casey. The services were held
November 30,2011 at Grace Community Covenant Church, Olympia.
