Mason County Public Utility Dis-
trict 1 was honored this fall with four
awards for excellence in communica-
tions.
The PUD received a first—place hon-
or from the Northwest Public Power
Association (NWPPA) in the Group A
(public utility districts with less than
10,000 customers) wildcard category
for its “Dam Proud” shirts, as well as
a second-place finish for the Mason
County PUD 1 newsletter “The Con—
nector,” for which Katie Arnold, Kris—
tin Mastelle’r and Darin Hall were
recognized and a third~p1ace finish for
the PUD’s Community Solar II adver-
tising campaign.
The NWPPA reported it received a
record-setting 200 entries in 2020, of
which the top three entries in each cat- ‘
egory were honored, broken out by the
sizes of their public utility districts.
The American Public Power As-
sociation also handed down 42 top
communications honors selected from
their national membership, for which
Mason PUD 1 was bestowed with an
Award of Merit for “The Connector,” in
the category of public utility districts
with operating revenues of $75 million
or less.
“This national recognition for our
newsletter is really fantastic, and
marks the first time we’ve been hon-
ored by APPA for our communications
efforts,” said Kristin Masteller, gen-
eral manager of Mason County PUD
1. “Toput this into perspective, we’re
competing with other member utilities
all across the United States, many of
whom have large budgets and entire
communications departments.”
Masteller added, “We have an $11
million operating budget, and all 25
of us at the PUD serve as communi-
cators. Communication is a core value
at Mason County PUD 1, and we work
really hard to improve upon it inter-
nally, and every time we engage with
our customers.”

Meet Joey! He is a 7 0-year—old, 17#, Jack Russell
mix boy who has a white with tan spots short
coat. Joey is a reserved boy who is looking for
a family who will let him be the best companion

walks around the neighborhood on a leash, and
car rides especially to a drive through for a plain,

Joey is shy at first, taking time to warm up, so
please be patient during our introduction. He
loves to carry a tennis ball around and will give
soft toys a quick shred!
Because of Joey’s age, he does have arthritis
in his left front leg, which he is on medication
for. Although fetch is his favorite, he will need
restricted activity, and fetch is now about a

Further questions? Currently, emails are the only
method of communication. We all care about
the health of our 2—Iegged caregivers and the
community at large, so as a precaution we are
suspending our public open hours. We are still
taking email inquiries, on-line applications and
will be in touch with you as soon as we are able.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding during
this time! Stay Well!
