Page A-12 Shelton-Mason County Journal Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020 & ACCIDENT nrpanrs Shelton slaying Victim identified The homicide victim found by Shel- ton Police and the Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 23 has been identified by the Coroner’s Office as 27-year-old Derrick Wily, a resident of Shelton. Wily’s remains were found in the 700 block of Golden Pheasant Road, an area of Mason County just outside Shelton’s city limits, about noon on Nov. 23. Investigators say they believe Wily was killed within city limits, then placed in the area where he was found. Police officers and sheriffs deputies arrested two suspects at a residence in Shelton about 7 pm. that same day. County Coroner Wesley Stockwell told the Shelton-Mason County Jour— nal that an autopsy revealed the cause of death as trauma to the body caused by another person, but declined to re- lease further details as of press time. A news release by Shelton Police on Nov. 25 stated, “This does not appear to be a random act, [as] the victim and- suspect knew each other.” Shelton man dies from car crash injuries in Sequim Shelton resident Justin J. Thomp- son—Petersen, 23, died of injuries suf- fered in a car crash near Sequim on Nov. 13, according to the Washington State Patrol. Thompson-Petersen was driving a 2002 Mazda Protege westbound on US. Highway 101, near theintersec- tion with Carlsborg Road, around 3 pm. when he failed to stop at a red light, striking a GMC. His car spun into the back of a westbound Chevy, injuring three other people in the col- lision. ‘ The cause of the crash remains un- der investigation, but the WSP report stated speed might have been a con— tributing factor. Pedestrian survives hit by downtown driver A man wearing dark clothing cross- ing in a crosswalk at the intersection of South 5th Street and West Railroad Avenue in Shelton escaped serious injury Nov. 24 when he was struck by a silver sedan in the early evening hours, according to law enforcement. Shelton Police the sedan failed to yield to the pedestrian. After striking the man, the driver pulled over and called 91 1. j The victim, a Shelton resident in his 508, had nonlife-threatezi’ing in- juries'and was transported to Mason General Hospital'by ambulance, ac- cording to Fiola. The driver of the silver sedan was found at fault, but Fiola added there BIRTH Alexander Edward Ramos, a boy, was born November 19, 2020, to Lina Diana Ramos and Christopher Thomas Ramos at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA. He was 8 pounds and 9! oz. was no indication the driver was un— der the influence or distracted. “It was the hours of darkness,” Fiola said. “The driver said she’d not seen the man in the crosswalk. This is a good reminder for folks that it’s getting dark earlier, so you should be extra alert for pedestrians.” Four injured in 2—car collision in Hoodsport A two-vehicle, head-on collision near the Hoodsport Winery on US. High- way 101 on Nov. 29 sent four people to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olym- pia with injuries. The collision blocked traffic for two hours.
