Central Mason promotes three

Central Mason Fire & EMS has promoted three
firefighter/paramedics ~ Abel Deffinbaugh, Samantha
Fox and Mark Frazier ~«’ to the rank oflieutenant, ef-
fective Nov. 2],.
Fire Chief Mike Patti described the three new lieu-
tenant positions part of the fire district’s reorgani—
zation efforts that began earlier this year. The moves
put Central Mason in line with industry standards and
allows the district to better manage its operational and
administrative programs as it navigates what Patti
characterized as “the significant growth” it’s experi-
enced in thepast severalvvears. ._
All three new *lieutenants bring extensive leader-
ship and-remergencyaservices experience to their new
positions-Patti said-Baffinbaug’ltbesashisfire
career (as La’volunteerffirefighter; with: Mason County
Fire 2006, then was a: volunteer lieuten- ‘
ant of’St'ation 57‘ in the Pickering Road area before be-
ing appointed "to fill seVeral temporary-hire positions

president‘of the International AssOciation of Firefight-u
are Local 2394, which represents more than 70 emer-
gency services workers in Mason County. '
Deffinbaugh will be assigned as a lieutenant on A-
Shift.
Fox was hired by the fire district in August 2011
as a firefighter/paramedic, and earned an associate de-
gree in fire science from South Puget Sound Commu-
nity College and graduated from Tacoma Community
College’s paramedic program.
Before joining Central Mason, Fox was a firefighter
with the McLane-Black Lake Fire Department and a
paramedic with Mason County Medic One.
Fox manages Central Mason’s peer support and
firefighter health and wellness programs the peer
support program that Fox and her colleagues devel-
oped was the first of its kind in Mason County and one
M'tbefirstjn
Fox will be assigned as a lieutenant on B-Shift.
Frazier has been with Central MasOn since Septem-
, her prior to which he volunteered with Mason
County Fire District 4,‘Worked at Mason County Medic
One and spent four years as a seasonal firefighter with
the Department of Natural Resources. -
Frazier is a certified paramedic active in the fir
district’s Wildland program.
In addition to his work With the fire district, Fra-
zier is activewith a number cf community nonprofit
groups, including as a founding member" and current
board member cf the Martha Reed Foundation, in ad-
dition to being active ’With the Mason General Hospital
Foundation for many years. -
Frazier will be assigned as a lieutenant on C-Shift.
All three lieutenants will be required to undergo a
. first year comprehensive officer development program.
