PERI PETTITT and Judi Hurst make plans for the Shelton High School Spanish Club Fiesta. e The Shelton High School Spanish Club is sponsoring a Christmas Fiesta from 6 to 8:30 p.m. December 17 in the High School Cafeteria. The event will include a Spanish-style dinner, entertainment and pinata for the children. Money raised from the project will be used to sponsor students to Mexico for the summer student exchange program. New officers of the dub are Peri Pettitt, president; Judi Hurst, vice-president; and Ken Evans, secretary. Leon Stutzman is the club advisor. ovie is plann or on,g This evening, as its fourth program in the series Movies/Take III, the Community Library Association will present Jean Renoir's great anti-war classic, Grand Illusion. In 1917, two French officers, the aristocrat de Boieldieu (Pierre Fresnay) and the mechanic Marechal (Jean Gabin) are shot down while on a reconnaisance flight by the German Commander yon Rauffenstein (Erich yon Stroheim) and interned. After repeated escape attempts, they are transferred to an "'escape-proof" fortress County commanded by Rauffenstein, who has been badly wounded. Although a friendship has developed between Boieldieu and Rauffenstein, loyalty to his men compels Boieldieu to aid in their escape, just as a similar loyalty compels Rauffeustein to shoot him. As Marechal and the French Jew Rosenthal (Marcel Dalio) flee toward the Swiss border, Marechal falls in love with a German farm woman (Data Patio). Renoir's theme is the indissolubility of class barriers and the consequent absurdity of nationalism and its logical extension, war: the two aristocrats are more at ease with one another than with their fellow-nationals; the working-class Marechal is naturally attracted to a German woman of his own class. But Renoir satirizes neither worker nor aristocrat; rather, his generosity illuminates the humanity of each character. (Filmed in 1936-37 in French and German; shown in a subtitled version, running 111 minutes.) The film will be presented at 7:30 tonight (December 4) in the high school auditorium. Admission is by series ticket or by individual tickets available at the door. Children will not be admitted unless accompanied by an adult. contest entries Entries are being sought for the Christmas Decoration Contest being sponsored by the Shelton Chamber of Commerce. Any senior citizen resident of Mason County using food stamps or interested in being certified to use food stamps may come to the Senior Center at 208 Grove Street in Shelton. Brown will be at the center December 10 between 1 and 3 p.m. The continuation of this service on a weekly basis will be determined by this week's usage. Julie A. Raichart, director of the senior center, stated that the outreach effort is especially helpful to senior persons who live within the city and find it difficult to arrange transportation to the Department of Social and Health Services which is located on Mt. View in Shelton. "Many senior persons hesitate to apply for food stamps as a result of viewing "the usage as demoralizing. Elderly people must come to the realization that it is a method of stretching their retirement dollars which they have paid for while employed and paying taxes," she said. Any senior citizen needing transportation to the center for this service may call 426-2568. All interviews and certification are done privately. - High ~.~ November 27 51 November 28 45 28 November 29 40 23 November 30 36 24 December 1 52 33 December 2 54 51 December 3 55 52 Mostly cloudy weather for the weekend w occt~rring predominl Saturday.
