Ph. 426-8139 The Christmas season was kicked off in Shelton Saturday with the annual Christmas parade, entertainment in the downtown area following the parade and the tree-lighting ceremony. Top honors in the parade went to the Capital Lakefair float which received the Chamber of Commerce award; the Moose Lodge float which received the Grand Marshal's award and the U. S. Army Bicentennial float from Ft. Lewis which received the Christmastown U.S.A. award. Mayor-elect James Lowery was the grand marshal for the parade, which drew a good crowd despite the chilly weather. Following the parade there was entertainment in the downtown area including a performance by the Jumping Jills and caroling groups. At 5 p.m. the lights on the big tree and the lights on store fronts in the downtown area and in the new Christmas decorations were turned on. Parade winners in the various divisions were: MARCHING BAND: First, Shelton High School. MARCHING UNITS: First, University Place Swingettes; second, Girl Scouts; third, Camp Fire Girls. MOUNTED UNITS: First, Silver Stars Saddle Club. • MERCHANT FLOATS: First, Capital Lakefair; second, Nye Company/Jayettes (Santa float); third, Arco/Cub Tavem (race car). MOBILE UNITS: First, Yesteryear Car Club; second, Senior Center cars; third, Big Fours. SERVICE ORGANIZATION F LO ATS: First, Jayette nativity float; second, Loyal Order of Moose; third, Santa float. INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES: First, Ormiston children; second, Aldrich children; third, Kelly Florek. You Should Know...
