Last week, the Shelton
boys' and girls' bas-
ketball teams played
their home openers to vast-
ly different crowds.
The Highclimbers
opened their season Nov.
28 to a fairly packed gym.
The school band was pres-
ent as were cheerleaders.
A good portion of the crowd
was students and they were
loud and proud.
The home opener for the
Lady Highc!imbers was
played Saturday to a crowd
of mostly adults. I'm guess-
ing they were parents and
assorted relatives. There
was no band. The cheerlead-
ers were missing in action.
What students were there
were few and far between.
I don't understand the
discrepancy. Were the dif-
ferences simply because the
girls played Saturday and
the boys played Wednesday?
I know Saturday's not a
school day, but in my mind,
the teams should be treated
equally. This means that if
a home game for the boys
features the band and the
cheerleaders, so should a
home game for the girls in
the same Week, regardless
of what night the game is
played.
And where's the student
support? I can't imagine
claims for something better

HANSON I cer-
tainly hope
the crowd
difference wasn't due to a
lack of faith in the girls'
team's abilities. I know
they've had a rough few
years, but at this point, they
can only get better and the
more support the girls get,
the faster that's likely to
happen.
Regardless of the rea-
sons, Saturday's crowd was
subpar and disappointing.
A home game is supposed to
be loud and supportive and
make the home team have
fun while playing. Satur-
day's crowd had moments
of being loud, but it was not
as supportive as it could've
