Journal photo by Emily Hanson Doug Sells showed how Santa would look as a runner, finishing the MissileToe Mile on Saturday, Dec. 3 with a time of 6:48.75, taking ninth place in the men's 15-39 division. run as fast as miSsiles By EMILY HANSON Runners in Shelton found a way to keep the cold at bay while waiting for the an- nual Christmas parade to begin on Satur- day, Dec. 3. Members of the Shelton Harriers as well as others from in and around Shelton took part in the first MissileToe Mile. "This was our first MissileToe Mile and we intend to build it into something spe- cial," John Johnson, event organizer, said. "There were some decent mile times run." Johnson said there was a great turnout for the mile, especially in the 14 and un- der division. "Our club is very interested in getting young people involved in distance run- ning, so it was nice to see all the kids out," he said. "Overall, it is a perfect set- ting for the race: right before the parade at dusk. The event has great potential as an athletic contest and a community get- together." Kenna Valentich finished fastest for the women's race with a time of 5:54.65, she was also the fastest finisher in the 15 to 39-age division. For the men's race and the 15 to 39-age division, Andrew Prentice was the first to cross the line with a time of 4:32.96. "We appreciate the Kristmastown Ki- wanis, and in particular Mark Ziegler, for supporting the idea," Johnson said. On the hunt for some Our Community Credi;t:Unibii :!
